Default Disable BB Methods

Please Login to Remove!

At the company I support, the users own the handheld and pay for the phone service.....

If someone leaves the company, what is the best method to disassociate their handheld from company data (ie email), yet still allow them to use their BB as a Phone.
Additional Info: Our BES policy is set to not allow users to make calls when the unit is locked.

The only two remote methods I can find are:
a) Set Password & Lock
b) Erase Data & Disable

- If method (a) is utilized, and the user tries an incorrect password 10 times, does it wipe the handheld of corporate data, and allow them use of phone?
- If method (b) is utilized, what does "disable" specifically encompass.

Thanks for any info, the admin guide doesn't provide much info.

I think in both cases it would leave the BlackBerry useless. If all you want to do is stop them from sending/receiving corporate email is to remove the person from the BlackBerry server.

If you want to erase everything off the device and delete him you will want to kill the handheld and then once that is done delete the user from the BES. At that point the user will be set to all factory defaults and have no data and the device will still function as a phone.

x14: Not only do I want to stop them sending/receiving email..but remove all corporate emails from their handheld as well. (ie remove corporate BES email).

jwcanada: By 'kill', I assume you mean the 'erase data & disable' option. I'm using the BES4 Manager and "kill" isn't listed as an option.

Keep in mind that this all has to be done remotely without physical access to his/her handheld.

I'm guessing that "set Password & Lock" would do a similar thing to Erase & disable, since the user wouldn't know the password and after 10 incorrect tries the unit would wipe. Si?

Yes I mean the Erase Data and Disable Option. This erases all the data and puts the device back to factory defaults OTA. This breaks the association with the device and anything to do with the email address or your corporate environment. So its that easy. You could do the Set Password and Lock put then you are assuming the user will type the password 10 times incorrectly. So the Erase Data and Disable Option is the way to go. Good luck.
