Default Email Redirection and Attachment Opening stops

Please Login to Remove!

I have a single user out of my 100+ users that is experiencing this issue.

- We activate the Blackberry account using a properly provisioned SIM card and working handheld.

- The Blackberry activates and sending/receiving of emails is working ok.
- Attachment can be opened too

after a few hours Blackberry stops sending/receiving emails and attachments can no longer be opened.

We have to re-activate again.

The rest of my users are okay (meaning server is ok)
BB logs seem to be okay (checked messaging agent logs)

A bit of history:
Email attachment opening had some problems before and I saw an entry in the logs that shows the account using Blackberry Desktop Redirector as being used by this account ( I forgot the exact line in the logs because it's no longer appearing now..) and so I asked the user to uninstall all instances of the Blackberry Desktop software that has his Outlook profile mapped (in his laptop and desktop pc).

After a few days the problem stated above happened..now not only can he not open attachments, email stops!

Any inputs would be appreciated!!

Is the user a member of any protected AD groups?

Nope, several distribution group memberships but not really "protected" (I assume you mean Domain Admins, etc..?)

Yeah there is a list of them on here somewhere but domain admins plus the other few. Did you try the wipe/EA squence for this user with a rmove of the info form the email box as well? You say you reactivated but did you remove from the BES (with the "remove info from mbx" option)? tTat should clear any old references to Redirector from the user.

Protected Groups / AdminSDHolder

Are there any entries in the ALRT or CTRL log for this user?

If you're ok with it zip up a day of logs and post it somewhere for me to grab it and I'll look at the user in question ... just send me a PM with where to get the file. I'll post back results in this thread (removing anything personally identifiable if found).

guys, just an update, i found out the issue..

The user has Outlook rules forwarding all new incoming message to inbox to a PST (Personal folder)- because when we disabled that outlook rule- issue was resolved.

Several things that puzzles me though is that:
- if this is the case then the BB wont activate at all using OTA, right? since that little BES ETP.dat email cant stay in the inbox- which is, as I have read required for proper OTA activation.

- why is the emails/attachment opening stops only after a period of time, not right away after activation. as if the BB server seems to still forwards the email up to a certain point in time then after that, it just stops..

weird..

OMG, people still deliver to PST in this day and age!?!?! Nice find!

The BB may activate fine as the mail may be in the exchange inbox long enough for the BES to grab it. But yeah anything which messes with the ETP email is a bad thing.

In answer to your second question, in all honesty I have no idea. Once you deliver to a PST you are moving out of the realms of what is supported by RIM and general best practise, so tbh weirdness is too be expected .
