Default Update to Latest OS Threads

Please Login to Remove!

Hi,

I was having problems with getting my firmware update for my 8120 as the Desktop Manager Showed it but when selected then said the update wasn't needed. It turns out that according to Crackberry forums the Version 5 Desktop Manager checks on the internet for the latest software for your device and country etc and since the firmware update was from a diference country - would not support it. Anyway the solution is to temporarily disconnect from the internet and retry the upgrade. The Desktop Manager then just uses the info on the PC and happily upgrades to the latest version.

You may want to put a better worded version of this in the various "Latest OS for" threads.

You delete the vendor.xml file, and it will install fine.
This is mentioned in the OS threads.

No this is after deleting the Vendor.xml file. (I've been updating my firmware for 2 1/2 years now). The Device manager showed it as an upgrade but would not let it be intalled, saying the upgrade was not needed. The only way to get it to be accepted I could find was (as per Crackberry) have the net disabled when running the Device Manager so it passed its upgrade checks... Weird....

I'm betting you have the automatic update turned on in your DM so it reinstalls the vendor.xml

After deleting vendor.xml double click the loader.exe in the same directory. There is no need for using DM to do FW-updates.

Do not use DM to do updates... use loader.exe!

Pearl 91xx... yes
Pearl Flip 82xx... yes
Pearl 81xx... no

OS 5.0 requires an increased device memory in order to function. The 81xx pearls have 64mb of on-board memory, whereas the minimum for OS 5.0 is >64mb on board...Sorry :(

Thx for the info.
I have my 8110 for almost 2 years now. Love it as a phone, but hate to write mails on it. Time for a change, hehe .

I would wait for the 91xx series if you like the pearl form factor...its going to be a nice phone.

found some pics on crackberry.com. looks really nice. But my fingers are really to thick for these little buttons. The layout of the 9100 looks better, maybe I can give it a try somewhere. But for the future I prefer a "real" blackberry (curve or bold: ), because of the larger keys.
