Default ~49 days uptime? v4.2 devices

Please Login to Remove!

Hi all,

Just a quick one,

Has anyone here noticed that the read-only information (including last update time) for v4.2 devices on their BES stops updating at around the point the BlackBerry has hit an uptime of approximately ~49 days?

I have this problem with quite a number of 8830's, however none of my 9000's (v4.6) appear to have this problem.

I'm possibly thinking that maybe the v4.2 code has the old 32bit integer issue which Windows 95 experienced...

Looking at some of our 8800 and 8300 devices still running 4.2, I can see their uptime is reported as in excess of 100 days, with some in excess of 150 days.

This is according to the BES status, is that where you are also getting the information? Or are you getting it from the device itself?

Hey, thanks for your reply.

I'm getting the information from the BlackBerry Device Properties screen, read-only section in the BlackBerry Manager. The 8830's (CDMA) we're running are running v4.2.2.172 & .196; what version(s) of the v4.2 code are your BlackBerry Smartphones running?

I'm using BES 4.1.6 for Lotus Domino with MR6.

8800 version is 4.2.1.101, which is currently reporting 166 days, 12 hr, 0 min, 33 sec in the BlackBerry device (read-only) Status section.

We are running BES 4.1.7 MR1 on Exchange, but doubt this should have an effect on this.

I've written an SQL script which returns the uptime values (in seconds) for all the BlackBerry Smartphone users (sourced via the SyncDeviceMgmt table).

I have a few v4.2.2.x 8830's users who are currently on ~48 days (I have no 8830's users with heigher than 49 days uptime) and their last update time is within the last ~6 hours which is expected.

It'll be interesting to see what happens in the next couple of days.

I predict that the uptime will be around ~49 days and remain at that, and the last update time (and other read-only information) will not update from that point on.

Possibly the CMNG and SYNC logs might show some information (or lack of information) from these devices when they get near to 49 days.

I have a couple of v4.5.x.x 8830's users, however they're only at ~32 days uptime - so I'll be closely monitoring these in the next 17+ days.

I see that alt+shift+h provides the uptime in seconds from the device, I'm going to get some of the affected users to report back with the value on their devices.

As you can imagine, without this read-only information updating, it makes managing the devices from an software configuration point of view rather impossible. .
