For me it was simple, long time T-Mobile customer they gave me a great deal on the 8900. Plus the unlimited phone plan is cool too.

The Bold is more along the lines of the 8800, while the Javelin is the next generation of the curve. The Javelin is thinner, and very closely resembles the curve, even the keyboard.

I will also say that the 8900 is my first BlackBerry and my first smart phone. I can't believe how quickly my fingers have learned to type on its key pad. My hands are not large, but they are not small either . . . average I guess. Some of it is also that I have never used a phone with a full Qwerty pad or a touch screen with one so I have not been influenced one way or another on what to expect or like.

I love this phone.

My first phone was a Curve. Fell in love with that. Then the Storm looked really cool even though I was not a fan of touch screens I thought I would give it a shot due to the fact that you can read more faster (larger screen). Touch screens are really not my thing and I couldn't type fast and select text to copy/paste easily on the Storm which was really annoying.

Then I got a Javelin - very nice phone but it didn't have 3G or CDMA. I travel to many different countries so I have to have something that can work anywhere. Sold the Javelin and got the Bold.

Agreed the bold is a bit chunky but in my opinion, it is the best blackberry out there so far. I hardly use the camera and music players and I'm more of a travelling business user.

I just got the bold yesterday and for me, it is the perfect berry! Ahhh, back to keyboards which I can feel and type super fast.

For an almost purely business user (of course I do take pictures but more for on-site work, and do listen to some music) I think the bold is the best. The screen is just the right size.

For me the Javelin is nice as well but because it doesnt work on 3G or CDMA - I had to put it aside although I really liked it when I was playing with it.

Once thing I really liked about the Curve and Javelin was the keyboard. it is much better spaced than the Bold. The Bold keypad is a little cramped but you get used to it.

Those are my thoughts

I think the keyboard issue between the too is a personal preference. I just got the 8900 last week, and really love it. I didn't like the keyboard at first.. but now I am very used to it. Yesterday I was at BestBuy, and played with the BOLD, and I have to say I hated the keyboard! The keys are all up against each other, and very soft... I didn't like the feel at all. I thought for sure I would have buyer remorse once playing with the bold.... but not the case...

Now, I don't have 3G as an option with either device because my carrier uses a different frequency, so that wasn't an option either way for me. I am sure it would have been if things were different.

Ahh, it's your own decision depends on which one of the device is right suit you, because you have OWN money to pay what you get. following your heart instead of asking those people..

Good Luck with your decision..

I'm currently using an 9000 but my wife is planning on changing her Iphone to a BB but I'm concern that she gets an 8900 and then she does not like it. I heard that the mini usb port is gone and that it needs a micro-usb charger. Any other reasons why I should encourage her to get a 9000 instead of a 8900??

I went with the 8900. I felt the bold was a bit on the big side!

Hi rgc.

I will be able to get a deal at the end of May, and I've pretty much decided that I'm going to get the 8900. Can you give details of the deal you got? I also have T-Mobile.

Thanks!
