Trying to find some solid info on what carrier/device combos out there support UMTS, the ability to send/receive voice and data simultaneously. Anyone know of the carriers and devices that support? I'm getting more and more annoyed by not being able to see new incoming messages while on a phone call.

in the States for Blackberry that would be Bold and Storm.

You could get a unlocked 8707v from the UK but who wants a 8700 at this point?

Storm doesnt support NA UMTS, Just Europe. GSM World - the website of the GSM Association i believe has pretty up to date listings.

And I thought CDMA/EVDO didn't support UMTS either, so looking like it's just the Bold on AT&T that can do this in the US?

UMTS is on the GSM side. EvDO is "3G" on the CDMA side.

Well, let's see....

I'm in my car an average of four hours per day, and on the phone for an average of 3 of those hours. Much of that can be on conference calls where I'm just listening most of the time, so on average it's about 1.5 hours in a day that I'm on the phone and could be composing and responding to messages. My BB is my communication lifeline to making money in my line of work and downtime means I make less money or it means that I'm responding to emails after the kids are in bed. In 1.5 hours, I probably average about 75 messages that require a response, so that's all stuff that could get done if I had the technology.

I'm not some kid using a bb in high school for fun (not that there's anything wrong with that, because if I were in high school, I would still want a BB). I depend on it to put food on my table. So, you shouldn't assume that just because it's not important to you that it's not important to someone, somewhere.
