Hello from Newbie with question on BB 7250 and .pdfs

.: Hello. I am a new user of a 7250 BB. I live in Edmonton, work at the University of Alberta, and the BB is on an Enterprise server. I posted the following question on the general discussion list a couple days ago, and wasn't aware that perhaps I should've posted it here first, so I'll repost here. Thank you for any help or advice you can give me. I am still learning a lot about the BB. One of our IT specialists is responsible for the BBs in our system, but I am away on holidays at the moment.
Anyway, here's my post:
-------------------------------------
.: Greetings. I am a newbie, this is my first post. I am using a Blackberry 7250 through an Enterprise Server maintained by our techies at work. About 10 of us have use of BBs through this server, which is running on the Telus network in Alberta. Further details:
v4.1.0.292 (Platform 2.2.0.110)
The problem I am having with pdfs is this: I can open and view them as attachments, but cannot open them from within an e-journal or a full-text database, i.e., from within a webpage in a browser. If I download and save the .pdf version of a journal article or book chapter and e-mail it to myself, I can open and view the .pdf as an attachment in my Blackberry 7250. If I try to view the .pdf from within the e-journal or database, I get the HTTP 406 error: "HTTP Error 406: Not Acceptable. The page you are trying to load is not supported by the browser. Please try loading a different page. Details: Application can not accept the content (application/pdf)"
Proxy server and/or authentication is not an issue here, as the BB server is running on our institution's network, so I have access to any and all proprietary products to which we are subscribing. Also, to confirm this, I tried opening and viewing .pdf files from public sites not requiring authentication of any kind - the same 406 error happens.
So, I cannot determine why the .pdfs won't open in the BB browser. I can report that the WAP Browser is not enabled, but the Blackberry Browser and Internet Browsers are enabled and functional. I'm wondering if there is a setting I need to enable from within either browser to make this work.
Any thoughts, suggestions or comments are very welcome, and thank you kindly in advance for taking time to read this message. - podbay

The other question I have is: How do I lock the ALT or Caps keys?
Thank you.
