Default Swapping ALLTEL 8830 for 8130

Please Login to Remove!

Alltel debuts the 8130 this Thursday and I'm planning to be the first one in line when they open the doors at 9 a.m.!

My question is this: I have searched the forum and seen that there are conflicting theories about swapping info from one model to another using the Switch Device Wizard. I'm going from an 8830 to the 8130 (knock on wood) Thursday. So is the Switch Device Wizard the way to go?

I guess I should also add that I don't really care if my third party apps are moved because the only one I really use is BB Alerts, and it looks like I'll want to install 1.60 fresh anyway when I get the Pearl. Right now I'm using 1.49 on the 8830. I'd welcome any opinions about the BB Alerts issue, too, because I've seen some conflciting info as well about how that's working for people on the 8130....

Well the OS on the PEARL is newer I believe! Switch device is definitely the easiest way to go!

I have heard the Pearl2 comes with 4.3. Roll with desk top manager.

i've previously done a switch from a Pearl to the 8800 and all of my data (contacts/calendar/notes/emails/text etc) got switched over just fine. It's just some of the other third party apps i installed gave some issues and had to be re-installed but that's pretty easy to do. But bear in mind that this was a switch between devices on the same OS. Not sure if it'll work as nicely if the OS's are different based on mark0341's post.

Yeah, it does have 4.3. I wondered if that would make a difference. I guess we'll see. I'll back everything up and do it that way if I have to. Hopefully that works, at least!

Will there be issues with screen resolution? The 8830 is 320 x 240, I think the 8130 is the exact opposite (don't have it, so I am not sure). Won't some programs and/or content be improperly formatted?

I already made the switch, wizard worked fantastic. Didn't switch over my 3rd party apps, even though I selected it to do so, though.
Now, that being said..I switched back to my 8830 within 36 hrs! I totally missed the qwerty! The suretype is okay, but keypad layout was way better on 7130e. Pearl keypad is all curved and jacks with my typing speed.
