SoftReset for the BB!
Please Login to Remove!
Install: OTA or alx/cod
Use:
Run the application from the home screen/applications. It has an icon now! Click the big Reset button, and then choose "Reset Now" when it asks you to reset. If you choose "Reset Later", you'll have to delete a code module to force a reset. Clicking the big Reset button again will give you those instructions.
Click Cancel instead if you run the app but don't actually want to reset.

Metsfan,
Great job! This works very well. Keeps me from having to remove the battery cover all the time!

I tried the first part of the link "geekandproud.net/blackberry" and from there I was able to see the app folder.
I will like to know why it didn't work when I typed the full address, maybe I did something wrong.
Thanks again

Thanks a bunch MetsFan!!!!! 8100 needed this badly. Very generous of you to provide this to us!
BTW- using the full URL work perfectly for me. For those that it didn't work for, what emulation mode is your browser set to? Mine is set to Blackberry.

Why not just have it as an app on your screen... click it and it asks for a reset.

btw this is the real deal.
I have noticed with this "tool" it actually does a full soft reset. My phone took about 1-2 minutes to come up after applying this.
Usually a battery pull and my phone is back up in 30 seconds.

I've been trying to write that, but I haven't been able to make it work. I'm going to keep trying, but this seems like a good compromise until I can figure it out.

I'm not being intentionally stoopid.. But why do I need this app?
I usually go 30-40 days between pulling the battery as my 8700g is rock stable.
Does this do anything a battery pull doesn't do? Without out pulling the battery that is..
Congrats to the author BTW. Anyone who releases a free app to any user population generates good karma for him/herself.
Thanks in spite of my ignorance

It just does it without pulling the battery. The Seidio case users really hate pulling their batteries because it's hard on their case.
This app is quite useful to many.

As for why you'd want to, I don't often but there are some times I do. In fact just now, I installed an application that requires a restart (overwrote old version), and accidentally said no instead of yes when it asked to reboot. This prevents me from having to take the battery out to do it.

Holy cow. I don't think my Pearl has ever booted in less that 1-2 minutes, just today I had to do 4 battery pulls in a row (testing an app that locks up a Pearl for a developer) and spent way too much time watching my handset reboot.
metsfan - thanks for another one! ;)

Well if the app locks up the Pearl, then this won't be of much use to you, because you won't be able to navigate to use it. But you're welcome.

haha no, won't help there nope. But I do the same as you, in that I might try a bunch of apps/games from getjar.com and then delete them all (not working, crap, whatever) in one session *then* do a battery pull reboot instead of choosing Yes when asked. This is where SoftReset earns it's meal ticket...

New version already coming in the next few days. Doesn't require you to manually delete anything, unless you miss the popup asking you to reboot. Run the program, press the Reset button, and it'll ask you to reboot.

It reboots a Pearl without having to take the battery out. This is something we could not do up till this point.
