Default OS: 9700 5.0.1254/5.0.0.743 (EastAsia)

Please Login to Remove!

BlackBerry Handheld Software v5.0.0.1254 (EastAsia and English)

Package Version: 5.0.0.1254
Consisting of:

* Applications: 5.0.0.743
* Software Platform: 5.1.0.165
* File name: 9700jEastAsia_PBr5.0.0_rel1254_PL5.1.0.165_A5.0.0. 743_Optus_Mobile_Pty_Limited.exe
* File size: 128.307 MB

Note: The Software Platform and Applications version numbers can be found under Options-About screen on the handheld.

* Download Software: https://www.blackberry.com/Downloads...4E92D025A75D1F

Instructions for installing on ANY carrier's 9700:

1. Download the above OS file to the PC then install it to the PC by running (double clicking) the file you downloaded.
2. Go to c:\program files\common files\research in motion\apploader and delete the file named "vendor.xml." Vista/Win7 users: In the apploader folder, simply click on "Compatibility files" to see the actual Vendor.xml file. Once you've got that - simply delete the vendor.xml file there (even if you've deleted or think you've deleted it in the folder previously) and voila, it will allow you to update to the newly installed OS!
3. Plug in BB and double click on "Loader.exe." It's located in the same place as the above vendor.xml file.

The process takes about 45 minutes to an hour depending on how much data you have to backup and restore during the process. Once it's done loading the new OS it will reboot (it may do this twice during the entire process.) You will see a black "BlackBerry" screen with a status bar for up to 20 minutes at a time while the DM says "waiting for initialization."
If, for some reason, you end up with a white screen with small icons and the number 507, simply connect to the PC again and run Loader.exe again, and it should load the OS to the device.

For the previous OS, see this link: http://www.blackberryforums.com/gene...a-english.html

I guess you have to assume at least BB thinks it's better than the last or it wouldn't be official.

Whoever this BB is they didn't release it. Optus did.
Research in Motion writes the code, and the carriers test and release it on their own schedules.

Just another OS to me....no major improvements, but there never are any noticeable changes as far as battery life in the first few days. I'll check out reception performances tomorrow when I'm moving in and out of a 3G area - but none of my observations are terribly technical, it's more of a 'feel' for the OS.

On a related note, I still can't play any media files. I had this problem crop up when I moved to 5.0.0.680. I'm going to try reformatting the entire microSD card and see whether that sorts it out.

Is the SMS issue the one where you can't open the SMS? I've been getting that a lot lately and I usually have to reset the phone for me to view the SMS.

Been using this OS for the past couple days and the only issue I have to report is that sometimes alerts come in, not using the alert I programmed, but that seems to be consistent with all the OS 5.0 releases. Other than that, I upgraded from .509 which I found to be the best release to date, and no difference.

Unless you're having some issues with your current OS, or just feel you want to have the latest one out there, I'd recommend not upgrading right now since you're happy with the OS you're using.

Default May Day, May Day, update gone bad

I'm applying the latest OS update to my 9700 and it is hanging right at the end; reloading data and apps. It says module "com_ea_niceoffice is asking for access to phone logs". It asks me to choose or deny but it is hung and I can't choose or get past it. This is the second OS upgrade I've done to my 9700. I've done dozems to my 8800 and 8820. This is the first problem I've run into. Any help would be appreciated.

If you made a backup before the upgrade try reloading the OS uncheck the option for auto backup/restore.

I never use the auto back/restore option because sometimes it doesn't work properly.

Finally found a flaw in this OS. With the Facebook application, it keeps synching calendars and putting Facebook event invites on the calendar in the Blackberry, despite having not checkmarked the box for this on Facebook setup.
