Default Inbox Messages Not All Prepopulating

Please Login to Remove!

There are about 50 messages in my Inbox. However, after Enterprise Activation only a few of them came across to the Inbox on my BB 8830. I saw in the following KB from BB, BlackBerry Search Results, that my Inbox should prepopulate with the messages in it. Any ideas as to why I cannot get all of the messages in my Inbox to sync w/ my BB and how I can fix that issue?

It seems to be sporadic (that's even the 'official' response we got from RIM). It should work so that the last five days or the last 150 messages prepopulate to the Blackberry on activation. Most of the time, the message population works (at least partially). Sometimes the messages never arrive. Assuming your messages are delivering to a server-based inbox (Exchange, Domino, GW) and not some sort of personal folders, if they don't get there, your option is to forward them to yourself if you really need them on the device. I'd say 80-90% of our devices prepopulate with at least some of the email. The others are SOL.

The default value is 5 days or 200 messages whichever comes first.

My experiance is Pre-population does not work if you are changing a handheld. Pre-population only applies to New Accounts and Clean Handhelds.

Is it possible to change this default on the BES server? If so would you know where? I have experienced a similar problem.

Yes, the maximum you can set is 14 days or 750 messages... whichever is reached first.

Open Blackberry Manager
Click the BES server in the left pane.
Click 'Server Configuration' tab on top of right pane.
Click 'Edit Properties' in the tasks section of the lower right pane.
Choose 'Messaging' from the left pane of the Properties window.
Adjust settings in 'Message Prepopulation' section in right pane of Properties window.
Apply settings.
Close windows.

Excellent. Thanks for the instructions. I made the change and this is really good information.

That's been our experience as well. If the account exists and we run EA, it will only pull in new items from the exchange account. If we want to get all 200, or 5 days, we delete the account and then recreate it on another BES.

FYI, this came in in 4.0 SP3 and allows prepop for existing users.

Not personally tested in 4.1

You can now turn message prepopulation on and off when you re-activate the same BlackBerry device for a user.

Procedure:
1. In the Registry Editor, browse to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Research In Motion\BlackBerry Enterprise Server\Agents\.
2. Create a new DWORD value named ForceMsgPrepopOnActivation.
3. Set the value to 1 to turn message prepopulation on.
