you may be able to buy a cell signal re-broadcaster... this is something which has an antenna on the outside of the house and a very low power antenna on the inside..it takes the weak signal from the outside, amplifies it and then 'broadcasts' it on the side .. again .. miliwatt power.. I don't recall the name of the one I saw, but it was from a canadian company (they had a few different models).. you'd need to buy it specific to the GSM technology, if not carrier..they can help you... some creative search on google will find it and if I had a link, I'd post it..not sure of the official prod. name, but thought this might help too (vs. just a patch or other 'external' antenna for your actual phone unit).

There is a prior thread under: Repeater for Emergency Operations Center

This will help. I've checked the Wilson site ... and they are saying Oct for the new product

I bought the Powermax repeater kit for my house. DA4000SBR I think it's called. Works like a charm within a reasonable distance but I'm still looking for better coverage

Isn't a repeater a bit pricey for the normal consumer? I think it would be cheaper to pay the cancellation fee and switch to a provider with better service in your area.

It's entirely possible to have great coverage with a carrier in general and a dead spot just at the house. I ended up switching carriers but I was seriously considering a repeater for the house for this exact reason.

It is pricey ... but it works just like having your own mini cell tower right in your living room.

Are there any other service providers with good signal in your region. You could pay $200 to cancell your current service and choose a different provider. $500 in the bank sounds better to me.

T-Mobile is planning on offering WiFi this Spring.

The phone talks IP to your in home wireless network and you VOIP out over the web. Interesting.
