So I have been getting conflicting information online about this.

There are loads of posts advising people to call their carrier and get this done, however I have also come across posts that state that for GSM phones, inserting a new SIM card automatically resets the PIN and that reseting the PIN/deleting the BIS account is not required for the newer BB models.

Can anyone confirm or dispute these claims? I want to make sure that the seller experiences the least amount of frustration/problems with their purchase.

Define "newer model". The BB10 models don't use BIS. Nothing to release or delete.

For the 9780 you should still contact the carrier to release the PIN.
