I think you're misunderstanding what this Web Desktop Manager download does.
The .exe file you download is the server component which provides the Web Desktop Manager Services. It's not something that would get installed on your PC or Mac. It gets installed in a BES environment, on a server.
That said, it still won't work for Mac users (yet?) but not for the reason you specify.
According to the WDM documentation, the requirements for the user computer are:
To use the BlackBerry Web Desktop Manager, users must have Microsoft® Internet Explorer® Version 5.5 or later and
one of the following operating systems installed on their computers:
xxx8226; Microsoft® Windows® 2000 Professional SP4 or later
xxx8226; Microsoft Windows XP Professional
No Mac, no Vista.
