Default Radio Turns Off

Please Login to Remove!

I have noticed a problem for the last 3 days with my 8330. All of a sudden the radio turns itself off for no reason. I thought at work that it might be a signal issue (which has never happened before) but it happened at home last night too. Is there a setting that I need to adjust so that this doesn't happen? Thanks in advance.

What OS are you running on your device?

That's a pretty old version. I would try upgrading to .131 or .138.

I am the type of person who doesn't like to upgrade something unless Verizon or Blackberry releases it on their site. Have they done that? I am a bit intimidated by downloaded versions that are not official. I would hate to see it cause more problems than what I have. When I use the desktop manager it states no newer updates available. I have had the phone for nearly a year and never had a problem with the radio turning off. So, I don't think that it is the operating system.

I understand your concern with beta OS's. Both of the versions I mentioned above have been officially released. Not by Verizon that I am aware, but Sprint has. You can find them on BlackBerry.com.

It may not be a software issue, but upgrading your OS will eliminate that theory.

Wirelessly posted (8820)

Also, DM will only notify you of an upgrade when an upgrade is released by your carrier. It doesn't mean there isn't an upgrade released for your model; only not by your carrier.

And to reinforce what the others have said, you can go back and install the older, original OS that your carrier is providing now.

As jsconyers says, your in a spot. Troubleshooting your issue is now a process of elimination.

I've seen this problem on my 8320 too.
I upgraded the OS a month after I got it and was on a BIS plan from the fourth month.
That's when the radio issues started. It would turn off for a little while (maybe less than a minute) then turn on.
Really weird.
Could it be related to activating BIS?

I've haven't been on BIS for a month now, but still notice the radio issue, although a lot less frequent.

I still see some service books left over from the BIS plan, and the apps that were pushed to the handset are still there.

Any insights into this phenomena?

When I had my 8320, it would randomly do it as well, I can't remember what OS version I was running, but it was an early verison of 4.5, I do recall once a newer beta leaked and I installed it, the issue was corrected. So I would update your phone software and do a battery pull once its fully completed and that should resolve the issue

I did upgrade to 131. It was pretty painless except for the fact that I had to reassign all of my personal ringtones. That was a pain! I will have to wait and see if this newer OS solves the problem. I am assuming now that my Blackberry should work a lot faster...is that true?

Don't know about performance improvement..... At least I've never obtained anything that caused me to say, "Wow, that's a lot faster."

But post an update when you come to a conclusion whether it fixed the radio problem.

The exact same problem occurs on my BB Pearl 8100. The radio occasionally turns itself off for a minute of so and then goes back to full reception. I have tried different firmware updates which have been release in the past year (4.5.0.55, 4.5.0.69, 4.5.0.124, 4.5.0.174), but neither one of these four updates fixed the problem. I fear we might just have to live with this issue

I had this on my Pearl. If you can't fix it with the device wipe/OS reload then I am afraid that you will need to replace it.
