Post OS : Bold 9000 4.6.0.263/4.6.0.144 (English + East Asian Languages)

Please Login to Remove!

BlackBerry Handheld Software v4.6.0.263 (EastAsia)

Package Version: 4.6.0.263
Consisting of:

Applications: 4.6.0.144
Software Platform: 4.0.0.143
File name: 9000jEastAsia_PBr4.6.0_rel263_PL4.0.0.143_A4.6.0.1 44_Telstra.exe
File size: 94.77MB

Select "...9000 smartphone" from the pull-down list:
https://www.blackberry.com/SoftwareD...ient=eiKaMQ2dL

1. Make sure you have Desktop Manager 4.6 installed. Older versions will load the OS but may not be full compatible with all the memory of the Bold. You can get DM 4.6 here:
Vodafone Germany
2. Download the above OS file to the PC then install it to the PC by running the file you downloaded.
3. Locate the vendor.xml file and delete it. It's located in c:\program files\common files\research in motion\apploader
4. Plug in BB and Open Desktop Manager. You should be prompted to upgrade.
The process takes about 45 minutes to an hour depending on how much data you have to backup and restore during the process. Once it's done loading the new OS it will reboot (it may do this twice during the entire process.) You will see a white screen with an hourglass for up to 20 minutes at a time while the DM says "waiting for initialization."
If you end up with a white screen with small icons and the number 507, simply connect to DM again and run application loader again and it should load the OS to the device.

Previous OS version for the 9000: http://www.blackberryforums.com/gene...6-0-126-a.html

Downloading now. My fingers are also crossed that it fixes the memory leak. Not too sure if it was just a co-incidence however the memory leak seems to have slowed down since manually changing the phone back to 2G.

Not sure this is memory leak or simply the way the RAM works on this device. The memory status (File free) on mine varies from 27MB to 16MB throughout the day. I have no crashes, and the memory (File free) always seems to be going back up to the 27's when I wake up.

Just updated mine with this latest one on the above post.

My "About" now returns a v4.6.0.144 (Platform 4.0.0.143).

I was previously on the out-of-the-box Rogers Wireless of v4.6.0.125 (Platform 4.0.0.1340).

I had some things I noticed on the old one that are now gone (voice mail indicator/entry in logging wasn't removed, seems to get that black clock icon quite a bit when typing) and those appear to have been fixed/improved.

I did have one other issue of when during a phone call it would be very choppy, like cutting in and out...couldn't determine if this was a issue with the wi-fi checking something while I was on the call, or, if it was a 2g/3g switching issue, but I'll report back as to my findings on the new OS.

So, just wanted to send out my experience: far so good on the basic usage of email/calendar/contacts/wi-fi, etc on a Rogers one.

(ps: I use my BB what seems like every minute of the day, so if there is something wrong, I should find it out today/tomorrow I hope... if I do, I'll post back...).

Cheers,
Greg

Hi,

Since I installed this update I've been unable to connect to my wifi. Before I could connect to my saved profile but now each time i get a message saying could not obtain an IP address or could not authenticate, but I've checked and double checked the password access key (and anyway its saved and was working this morning and the wifi is working on the laptop next to the phone!). Any ideas please? I've tried a battery pull which didnt help...

I would try restarting your wireless router.

147 would theoretically h ave more bug fixes. Personally, I'd install the latest you can find.

Restarting the router was the solution! Sorry for blaming the OS... I didnt think to do that because the laptop was connecting fine but one quick push of the button and now the phone is connected to wi fi. Thanks for the suggestions!

I upgraded to 4.6.0.144 (from 126) yesterday and everything seems OK so far. BB Alerts 1.65 is working fine and I haven't experienced any memory leaks (yet).

I have been running 147 for 4 days since I got my BBB

Absolutely no problem at all

There is one big improvment in the .144, which my customers really waited for: Japanese Input support is now officially provided and working. My device is stable with .144 (running for 24 hrs on that version now).

Just upgraded my .126 to .144 and I'm impressed how much was actually restored afterwards. Now if only they could somehow recover the BES activation then it would save me 15 minutes on our helpdesk to get it re-activated.

Seems ok so far, but it removed a lot of files according to the Desktop Manager and didn't like any of the Nordic Input options so I had to remove them. I can't find a log file in order to show what it did.

Do RIM provide any sort of change log for these handheld O/S updates?

Have installed this update on a Telstra 9000. Working well so far. Before the install would work I had to go into Advanced in the Desktop software and remove the dutch input langauge option. Activated and all seems to be working well now.

Lets hope there are some improvements around the battery charge time! Seems to take all damned day to charge the Bold up. Then a day for it to run out.

RIM provides them to the carriers only. We rarely ever see them.
