I just bought a brand new 9780 a couple of weeks ago but just started using it yesterday. I found out that the ear speaker makes crackling sound and the volume is extremely low when making a phone call. Speaker phone, ring tone and media sounds have no problem. It is also not a problem with the mute/speaker button accidentally pressed.

Strange thing is that when i remove the thin plastic film over the camera lens it worked, but i tried it again this morning and the problem came back. Also tried removing battery for hours still no luck.

Any solution for this problem other than claim its warranty? It just pissed me off that a brand new (not refurbished) handheld has this kind of defect

Mine works perfectly fine with thin plastic film still over the camera.

I think you should get it checked and claim warranty.

I was having the same issue with the old version but with the upgrade of new version this prob is gone. Good luck on upgrade. Backup is always recommended.
