Default Missing call logs, emails and phantom texts?

Please Login to Remove!

Over the past few days, I've noticed some odd behavior in my Curve.

My call log doesn't keep information. Every time I go to make a call, there's no call history showing there. This morning I checked my Call Logging options, and it was set to None for some reason. So I set it to All Calls, and a few calls showed up in my history after I made or received calls. Now it's blank again. I checked the Call Logging options, and it's still set for All Calls, but I have no history showing up.

It seems like my email history isn't all there. I forget to clear out my emails, so every once in a while I go in and clear out the whole pile. Today, I went to do that, and it while today and yesterday were all there, the days before were only showing 1 or 2 emails. That's not right.

Lastly, I would SWEAR it's giving me audible notifications of text messages, but when I check the phone, there's nothing there. This isn't consistent at all. I'm leaving room here for my imagination to be hearing text notifiers (in the same way I sometimes feel it vibrating in my pocket or on my desk when it's really not), but I'm pretty sure it's the real sounds going off.

Any ideas what's going on here? The lack of a call history is what's really weirding me out.

It sounds like your device is very low on memory. When that happens, the device will start deleting emails, call logs, text messages, etc, in order to reclaim the space.

Click on Options (or Settings, then Options) then Status. Write down the File Free number.

Now pull the battery (while device is on) and put it back in after 30 seconds. Once it boots up again, go check the File Free number agin.

And post both back here so we can help further.

Doh! I did the "pull the battery" hard reset right before I got this response.

So, post-reset, the numbers are as follows:
File free: 646824 Bytes
Free total: 58064896 Bytes

That's much better. Just over .5MB to almost 6MB.

This might be able to help you get even more space and prevent this from happening in the future: http://www.blackberryforums.com/gene...ee-memory.html

I think you read my reply wrong.

I wrote it in wrong in the labels:
File free: 646824 Bytes
File total: 58064896 Bytes

Post-reset, this is memory free vs. total memory on the device.

This isn't pre-set vs. post-reset memory.

You may also want to uninstall some of the 3rd party apps which you really do not use. Also you may want to clear some of your old calendar items.

BTW do you store pictures/docs or any other big file on your berry or on your media card?

You just have .6 MB of free memory which is abysmally low. You berry needs around 12MB of memory for optimal performance.

WHOA. Raja is right, that is extremely low. I did read it wrong. As Raja mentioned, make sure you're not saving pictures to the device memory - they should be on the media card. Also follow the link I posted above to free up some (a lot, in your case) memory.

See, this is why I love this forum, I know that whatever problem I have, someone else has already had the same problem and someone else has already posted how to fix it.

The other day I went back to read an important email that I left on my BB and it was gone. I was almost positive that I didn't delete it, but it was gone off the BB. Luckily, I was able to find in on my PC so crisis averted. I've also noticed that my call log has been empty despite the fact that I never delete my calls until I've called the person back or saved the number in my contacts. Last night I checked my BB, had about 35 emails that I decided to leave until this morning. Checked this morning, all I had was the 5 emails I received since the device turned on this morning; all of last nights emails were gone, goodbye.

Checked my file free, didn't need to write down the number because it was 0. Z-e-r-o. Did a battery pull, got back about 6.5MB, deleted some pictures on my device memory, got back another 1MB (I put those pictures on before I got the memory card, never moved them).

Debated following the instructions in the link to free up some more memory, but I'm a scaredy-cat and don't want to mess with it. I won't even install 4.5 beta on my BB because I'm afraid to mess with it...lol.

When I get a chance, I'm going to delete a few 3rd party apps that I no longer use so I can get a little closer to the 12MB free.

Y'all are the best!

This is happening now very consistently.

Every 3 days or so, I get erratic behavior, so I check my Status and see that my File Free has dropped to 0. It's like that right now.

I have deleted all unnecessary apps, and that helped temporarily after the reboot, but then 3 days latter, I'm back down to 0. I clear out old emails, I clear out anything and everything I can come up with. And after the reset, everything's fine. Then in a few days, it's back to 0.

What's going on?

If you still have less than 12 MB of free memory, then you need to delete more apps, even if you think it is necessary. You need to decide which apps are more necessary than others.

You also haven't replied to a previous question (from raja): do you store pictures/docs or any other big file on your berry or on your media card?

This isn't good. I reset it and it's showing 2.1 MB free. Doh!

Yes, I do keep a good amount of photos on my media card, but I've never really thought that would make much of a difference.

Here's what I have:
Blackberry 4.5.0 Core Apps
Blackberry 4.5.0 System
Blackberry Attachment Service
Blackberry Messenger
BrickBreaker
Browser
Documents to Go
Email Setup Application
EmpowerMailviewer
Facebook
Gmail
Google Docs
Google Maps
Google Mobile Updater
Google Search
Google Sync
JiveTalk
Mail by Google
Memopad
Milksync
Password keeper
Phone
TTY Support
Tasks
Twitterberry
Viigo

This doesn't seem like alot to me, honestly.

When I scroll through my home screen, it seems like there are a bazillion icons that I never use (probably from AT&T) like Shop Tones, Shop Games, etc. I also seem to have apps that I can't find anywhere to delete and don't show up in my Advanced Options>Applications screen, like YellowPages.com Mobile.

I wish there was some way to physically see what's taking up so much memory. I can't tell what there's too much of.

I've deleted several feeds in my Viigo, and I'm now up to 3.5 MB.

It looks like you don't have that many apps on your device.

If the photos are truly only stored on your media card, then it shouldn't affect your device memory.

What about documents you created for Documents To Go or Google Docs? Are they stored only on the media card?

I believe OS 4.5 already allows you to view HTML mail. So, Empower Mail Viewer is kind of redundant and you can delete that.

What is the difference between Mail by Google and Gmail? That looks redundant too.
