I had a long meeting with Sprint today. Here is what they told me. 8703 due out in October. PTT technology being revamped to work in EVDO network as well as IDEN. They said the big sell is you will have PTT in either network which will be a big selling point so if you roam out of one network, you very well may have coverage with the other and get PTT. They are not getting away from PTT. Now, I didn't hear anything specific on a new PTT, BB, however and the 8703 won't be PTTT.

I have heard this *RUMOR* floating around the Sprint Corp Office. I work for an Agent of Sprint/Nextel, in the Indianapolis market.

It is rumored one of the reasons the 8703 is coming out on Verizon 1st is because BB is working with moto(who is bringing out hybrid phones, sprint cell coverage and data network, but uses iDEN for PTT) to produce a hybrid 8703....if this is true there will be no competition....Sprint cell coverage and EVDO with Nextel PTT...the only thing that would possibly make it better is a camera...

I'd think it odd that RIM wouldn't want to update the BB for iDEN as the 7520 and 7100 are so popular.

Default new nextel phones

I spoke with BB support this morning because I was having issues with my voicemail. Anyway he told me there weren't planning on releasing any new nextel BB, sprint BB maybe, but not nextel. I would love to see something new, something that combines the 7100i and the 7520 would be great. My hubby has the 7100 and i like the look of the phone and the list view but i hat the suretype key board. me i'll stick to anything with a qwerty keyboard

I have a friend with Sprint BB Support, and he told me that early October you can expect the 8703. They have one in their office that they are testing. There's nothing right now for Nextel, but he believes that Nextel will have a "Q" type phone from Motorola.

and vice versa, only because I think each company was strong on their own, but now they seem to have tons of trouble trying to integrate the two and please both customer bases.

I wanted to buy a BB 7130e. called Sprint BB support. Asked me if I liked qwerty. They told me to wait till the end of september for the 87xx he also added if I have previously used ptt... I said no he told me that to bring some Nextel BB users they will ad this option to the device... so any doubts call Sprint BB support at : (877) 654-9111

I there a way that we can express our disgust with Sprint/Nextel's poor communication!? Can we get one of you guys to write an article or something about this issue? We need to get the word out - they clearly are no longer customer focused - at least not BB customers!

Will the 8703 have the media player and a mini-SD slot?

PTT is not an option on the 8703. It will support EVDO Rev 0. Rev A will support PTT.
There may be PTT on future BB devices but not this one.

Nextel has put a $100 rebate on the RIM7520. Maybe trying to clear out space? As a Nextel BB user i have received no information stating that the company is done releasing bb devices.

Just called Business Sales and acted like I wanted to switch to another carrier, told them I was tired of Sprint being behind on the new BB releases. She was coy about a new device, then proceeded to tell me about the "new" 7130e! Nothing else beyond that, but I had to share it with those who can laugh with me about this crap.

Most of my laughing about Sprint is accompanied by angry head-shaking. I refuse to get excited about any new devices they may have until I see it on this forum that someone has one in hand. Until then, I'm not even going to entertain the fantasy.

I have to say that I've never had any real service issues with Sprint, as far as the technology goes; I just can't stomach the inconsistent quality of their customer service most of the time.

I agree on the service as well. Other than a couple issues with ordering or provisioning, I can't complain too much about the service either. My frustration has to do with 1) lack of new devices available compared to other carriers and 2) lack of discounts for upgrades. I figure they're getting you enough on the monthly charges, are they really making that much on the devices?

You get $150.00 credit at 18 months towards a new device on Sprint.
