Pull the battery. When it begins to reboot, connect to DM and run Apploader. Remove 3rd party apps until you find the one causing it.

I removed pretty much everything and the phone only takes like 5 minutes to go through the entire install/uninstall before it says its finished. The phone is pretty smooth for about 30 seconds and then it starts to lag really bad. Soon after it says error 523

Should I just wipe the phone? I have a recent .ipd file that I backed up before using this guide.

App error 523's are usually caused by 3rd party apps. You could try a wipe...I would backup the device and then use JL_Cmder to wipe and load the OS fresh. That will get rid of all the 3rd party apps.

After JL_Cmder the device will say "507" and you'll have to run application loader to reload the OS. You'll have it back fresh out of the box. When you are sure it's working ok, restore your ipd file. Try it again for a while. Then download and install any 3rd party apps you had one at a time.

Make sure DM isn't running when you use JL_Cmder

John it isn't working. I remove the battery and then run the loader and I type in blackberry and it says searching for the device, but then just goes back to the main menu.

When using JL_Cmder you don't need to remove the battery. Put the battery back in and try it. Wait about 2 or 3 seconds after inserting the battery before doing the wipe. However, do it before it says error 523.

JC, should I update the FAQ especially the battery part, that it should be in there instead of out (as it used to be?).

Ok, so the thing finally finished reinstalling the OS. I exited DM and my phone was asking me about turning on mass storage before it automatically turned off.

Do I need to start it up again or will it auto boot and finish doing whatever?

Great John...I think my phone is broken. I started my phone back up and it was like a whole different phone with the theme, whatever no big deal if it worked (which it didn't). I tried to go the settings after hitting the blackberry button and it gave me an error, then it went white screen and said 523 again.

How screwed am I?

Well, yes, of course. I read them and then followed them. At first, I managed to free up to 11.5. By the end of the day, it had dropped to 6. Resetting got me to 9. Since then it goes up (during the course of one day) to 14 and then down to 3, but 9 is about average. I'm just afraid I'll see a sudden drop back to zero, and the mass random deletion will start again.

Also, my GPS starts and stops working for days at a time. I get java errors (index 9 >= 8), etc.

I'm beginning to think I simply have a defective unit.

Thanks alot...this has been the most informative thread for me, I just hope with future releases of the software they take care of this memory leak, which is a common problem with all the releases
