Firstly set up the new machine with the Exchange System Manager, DB engine, local permissions for the BESAdmin on the computer you're installing on (all the pre-install work basically).

1. Back up your DB on the old BES and export (optional)
2. Export your user list on the old BES
3. Disable services on the old BES
4. Install fresh instance of BES on new machine
5. Import user list
6. Import database info (optional)

Whatever you do DON'T have both machines running the BES services at the same time. Your SRP will become blocked by RIM which will add to your outage time.

hi

i already have a BES 3.6 installed on a p.c which is no longer being used as i have moved all the users over onto another BES 4.1.

Server A = BES 3.6 that needs rebuilding to 4.1 (new OS etc)
Server B = BES 3.6 - is not being used

do i need to move the srp key /authentication key / CAL keys or will that get moved when i move the database over?

also does the database not have all the user info? so why do i need to export/import the user list?

can i not just copy the c:\Program files\ microsft SQL server\mssql folder from server A to Server B?

what i was going to do was add the BESAdmin account that is is used on server A to server B. so that they wont need to resync. and move the database across and switch OFF services on SERVER A Then Start Services on Server B.

any instructions on how to backup the database and how to export/import.

thanks for your help
