Default Any way to stop or trace SMS messages?

Please Login to Remove!

Hi all -
Not exactly a BB issue, but having now that I'm a happy BB customer and switched back to Verizon.

A long time ago (more than 2 years) I was with Verizon with a regular cell that could receive SMS messages. I signed that phone up to receive commuting warning SMS messages, and I must have used the #@vtext.com e-mail address.

Some time after that, I switched carriers to T-Mobile (ported my number) and the messages stopped since the vtext.com gateway wouldn't send the messages to T-Mobile. That was fine with me. It's doubly fine now because I'm no longer commuting!

Well, the other day I switched back to Verizon (much better coverage for me at home) and I'm a proud new BB 8830 owner. With one little catch...

Those darn transit warning SMS messages are again coming to my phone because I ported my number back to verizon! I can't believe it's still working after several years. Bottom line, I'm now paying 15 cents per text message and I want to stop them. But the e-mails that are sent are too long, I think the unsubscribe information must be at the bottom of the e-mail but it gets cut off due to SMS length.

How can I trace the origin of these or should I contact Verizon for help?

did you check if you can logon to your verizon a/c and see if you have an option to unsubscribe the sms?

Wirelessly posted (8700g: BlackBerry8800/4.2.1 Profile/MIDP-2.0 Configuration/CLDC-1.1 VendorID/102)

Do you even remember where you would have signed up for them, verizon, the local DOT or a local news radio or TV station?

Thanks for the tips so far. I tried logging into Verizon but there's no detail about SMS other than number of messages sent/received, no more info than that (which could have been very helpful.)

I do know the sight I used to sign up. I've e-mailed them to ask to be removed from the list but so far, no response or action.

Most list servers allow you to unsubscribe from another address, but this one asks you to click a link at the bottom of the message which is getting cut off because of the length limit on SMS messages.

Can you try to create a ghost a/c with SMS.ac, sign-up with the site where you first signed up for the "commuting warning SMS messages" to have them send a copy to your ghost a/c with sms.ac, see if you can get a full sms and get the unsubscribe link?
