We were running BES 3.8 for 20 7750 units I saw the specs for the 7250 and the 4.0 desktops and forced my BB admin to upgrade the server ... is there anyway to OTA the new desktop to the 7750's? or do I have to ge to every user and do the upgrade through the cradle (I thought the OTA function was the whole "SELLING" point of the 4.0 BES ....)

OTA sync of contacts, notes and tasks. No one ever advertised the OTA transmission of Desktop Manager or the Handheld code for v4.0.

To me that implies I need not get the employees to upgrade their own systems ... Also I upgrade one of the 7750's thru the desktop manager and tried to provision it wirelessly .... with the upgrade there was no Enterprise Activation under options or on the desktop ... I put off RTFM'ng the BES manual till tomorrow ... if it gives me the answers I'll make sure to update the thread ....

You cannot OTA the OS.
To upgrade the OS you need the cradle.

OTA works for add-on applications and application updates.
And you can wireless activate any 4.0 BB. Proven.

Wichtel is correct. You can't install the OS OTA. It will have to be cradled and installed manually at the server, or at a desktop with the appropriate HH OS loaded.

Ack. Could you imagine the fun if an OTA "os upgrade" went wrong?

FWIW, I had a 7750 that also didn't show the EA icon after upgrading the OS. The option wasn't even listed in the Settings menu. Upgrading the device again didn't fix it. I had to do a "Wipe Handheld" (from the Security menu) to get the icon back.

Apparently if the BES and BB notice that the device is already on a BES, it determines there is no need for the Enterprise Activation icon, since the device is already on a BES and activated.

My experience is, that updates, especially from 4.0 beta, prerelease, in-between-release, final-release should be avoided. We had funny problems with some upgrades.
I now always better wipe and install from scratch.
Even a backup, restore is not always good on 2 different releases of 4.0

This refers to Wireless Activation. You can set your user up on the BES, send them a password - all prior to them even having the handheld. Once they get it, they can put in their information and set up everything OTA. While this is a novel idea and a nice function of BES 4.0, the initial setup time is much more drawn out than that of BES 3.6, imo (this is all dependent on how much information they have to synchronize, though).
