Default New ATT Bold OS Issue

Please Login to Remove!

Loving the new ATT OS for the Bold, but I've encountered one issue and I wonder if anyone else has noticed it.

Ever since the upgrade, the device is very slow reading data from my micro sd card. As an example, when I open my photos folder and the thumbnails pop up, it takes a very long time for them to appear. Didn't have this issue in prior releases - they came up instantly.

Anyone else see this?

I haven't but I did get an error for awhile that it couldn't read my media card. I finally pulled it out for a minute reinserted it and all is good so far.

Try removing and reinserting the card as mentioned above. Have you tried a battery pull on the device at all? That seems to cure many ills.

Sometimes, an OS upgrade does more bad than good. That could be what happened in your case.

I also noticed the same slowness after I up upgraded. But, after all the pictures loaded the first time, I have not noticed it being all that slower than before the upgrade.

It could be the class of the media card. Is it Class 2, 4, or 6? This represents the write speed from 2MB/sec to 6MB/sec., although Class 6 can go up to 45MB/sec based upon current data. Some less expensive cards have the slower speed rating, so you have to balance economics with speed.

att has reposted the update today with a slightly newer platform version. I believe the main issue that was addressed was network connectivity, but I would be interested to see if this also helps with your memory card issue.

I upgraded back when it first was released and I've had no problems. My question is should I download the newer OS platform or stay with what I have?

AT&T advised that you upgrade to the new version.

I have find the thumbnail thingy the most sluggish during the process of attaching a pic in an email. I cannot remember when it was fast or every good, however, I have doing the following and it has been an improvement

-Use a microsdhc with higher class than number 2. I recently purchased an 8gb class4 from lexar, and it worked better due too speed read/write I assume versus a regular sandisk. I imagine class 6 is even better..
-Defrag the microsdhc...when plugging my phone to my PC, the system recognize the drive and I simply defrag by chosing that drive. Based on the status screen my memory card was badly defragmented, surprisingly...god knows what someone should do if not on windows pc?
-I deleted the unix files in my directory that shows the thumbnail or at least file being created....I wanted to have blackberry create a new file..

Well, that's what helped me to improve the speed...it will be subtle, but I guess anything helps...
