Exclamation Big problem with Desktop Software

Please Login to Remove!

Hi there,

I had a HD problem and my XP profile has been destroyed.

I relaunched the laptop and the BB desktop starting to ask me for non existing files.

I installed at the top of my 4.02 dead software the last 4.1 update but it couldn't erase the previously installed version. Still... as soon as the PC starts, windows installer is asking for the old installation file.

What can I do to get rid of this problem? I would not like to loose the calendar sync history as both BB and Outlook on the PC have been upated.

Thanks for your help !

Thomas

If you have synched your contacts and calendar items then you are not going to loose anything if you reinstall the desktop sw. Just make sure when you come back after the installation, you check the settings.
I have submitted this recommendation to RIM where we should be able to save a profile/setting for a device so that when we try to synch different device we can always select the proper setting.

When you install most RIM BB Software on an XP workstation, the software is unzipped and extracted into the C:\Documents and settings\<Username>\Local Settings\Temp\WZSE0.TMP (or something very similar) folder. The problem with this is that it deletes the files after it completes the install and often requires files later.

To fix this, what I have done is start the install routine and then copy the unzipped files out of the directory and to an installation location...for me it is usually a location somewhere on the network or the local C:\temp folder. Then I kill the Zipped installation and install from the Unzipped file. This way if the program has a problem, the files are always available from the original install location.

If you do this with the original version of the desktop manager, you will have the required MSI file that the application is looking for.
