I have a blackberry Curve 8310. The pearl in it still rolls smoothly but when i click it normally, it wont work, it only works if you click the pearl really hard. Is there anyway to like reset it or somthing so I can click the pearl normally and have it work? This is my first time on blackberry forums so please dont flame me Im just trying to figure out whats wrong with my phone.

They get 'clogged up' easily. Tru rolling it around with a bit of rubbing alcohol on your finger.

What I do is lock the phone, and just push it down hard and rotate it around for awhile.

It usually fixes mine

It may be gunk in the works, but the fact that it rolls around smooth has me worried it is just wearing out and you will have to replace it.

My advice would be try dankarlinski's suggestion -- and don't get carried away with the alcohol -- and see what happens.

Replacing the track ball should be no great problem. I can't say for sure with the 8310, but I've done it with another model and it was a piece of cake.

The 83xx series was the easiest to fix for this problem. There are youtube videos show how to clean / repair .

As devnull said it is very easy. I have cleaned and replaced the trackball on a few
8310's with ease.

Amazon.com/BB is a great app for comparative shopping for OEM rim Trackball kits. All you need is a guitar pick, utube videos and about $10 for a replacement. Get one with a bezel included. But you may need to put a little rubbing alcohol on a Q-tip to clean the contact (for the ball press plate contact on the board, underneath the removed ball assembly). Gunk definitely builds up under there.
