Question Did Verizon Fib About BB Browser Outages?

Please Login to Remove!

Help! My BB browser stopped working on Jan. 15th

"Unable to connect to the selected Mobile Data Service, please try again later. If the problem persists, please contact your administrator" is the message I get whenever I try to use the browser.

I finally called Verizon Wireless on the 17th and after trying all the usual fixes (all of which I had already tried) they supposedly called RIM. Then they said that RIM told them the problem was with Blackberry and only affected 5% to 10% of their users, and that they are working on it.

I can't find any way to get through to RIM/Blackberry tech support, but it is now Jan. 26 and still no browser. Well, actually I am now able to get to the four sites that are in my Blackberry browser bookmarks, but I can't enter a "go to" address, not even google or yahoo, and can't get to any other sites (pretty strange, huh.)

I'm suspicious that I was given the brushoff by Verizon -- I say that because I've searched this site and can't find any reference to this supposed "problem," and if it was really affecting 5-10% of BB users it would have been all over this site, right?

Can someone help? Anyone else getting the message above? Is there a BB Tech number I can call that doesn't require me to buy a service contract or something?

Thanks a million!

This is an issue with your MDS service on your company BES.
You should do as the message indicates, and contact your IT department for assistance.

It's likely not related to Verizon at all.

The only way to get in touch with RIM over the phone that doesn't result in a fee is via your carrier. You would have to ask Verizon to transfer you to RIM if you want to speak with them, but Verizon may or may not do that for you.

Yep. This is definitely an issue with your MDS Service on the BES server. Listen to the penguin.

Thanks Penguin and all -- but this is my personal blackberry and I don't think there is a BES here at my office, though I do receive my office emails on the blackberry. It is a very small office, but I will definitely ask the part-timer who manages the network here and see if she did anything to the MDS service (I'll look that one up ;>) I did ask other Verizon Wireless users who work in this office, and none of them have had browser problems.

I've been using blackberries for nearly six years and this is the first time I've run into this kind of problem, especially for such a long time.

P.S. I've been a member of this Forum since 2005 -- any idea why I'm identified as "New Member" in my post (and also as "Invisible")? It used to say "Hooked on my BB" under my name. Hmmm, there's probably another place I should post that particular question.

Thanks again -- this is a great community!

Go to Options > Security Options > General Settings, scroll to the bottom and what does it say under Services?

As for the new member title, that is controlled by your post count. Seeing as you only have 3 posts, it lists you as a new member.

Mystery solved, thanks to all of your suggestions! I went to Options > Advanced Options > Browser > and changed the browser configuration from Blackberry Browser to Internet Browser. I have no idea why that worked, but it did!

As for the new member title, it's fine, it's just different from the one I had originally when I signed up, which was "Hooked on My BB" and I was just confused about it. It also says in red that I am "Invisible," while other posters to this thread are identified as Online or Offline. Is there a setting I need to change? Does it matter?

Thanks again for all the help -- Blackberry users rock!

Yes, on your Control Panel (upper left of this page) you can set your visibility to others.

As for the user title...
