Exclamation Knife-Edge Cutover/SQL Upgrade Question

Please Login to Remove!

Hello all.

Going to be doing a knife edge cutover to a new box in a couple weeks, and in the process we will also be upgrading from MSDE to SQL 2000 SP4

I have the standard Knife-Edge instructions, for exchage - but i dont know how the SQL upgrade factors into it, do we have to do anything extra?

Basically I have a new Windows 2003 Enterprise box With SQL 2000 SP4 Online right now just waiting. Do i just follow the standard cutover instructions, or are there extra upgrade steps we have to take?

Thanks

Sounds like you're not upgrading the MSDE, but moving the DB over? I would say, create a new database on the new SQL with server config util, or createdb (with the same name as your current DB). Then, restore your old BES DB to the new SQL, writing over the new one.

Reason...when a BES DB is created, there are some master db entries created, etc. You need to get that stuff in the new sql. Then, just cut over the BES boxes.

The database move to a new server is a snap. Just be sure that your permissions are correct. The entries that blablabla13 is refering to are entries into the sysmessages table of the master database. If those entries aren't there one of the services (can't remember which one) will not start.

Just curious. But why SQL 2000 and not 2005?

SQL 2000 because we already have the per processor cal's paid for, management said to use 2000.

Wel we're doing both, we're moving the DB over to a new box (which will be the new BES) and we're upgrading off MSDE.

Will a MSDE databse restore to SQL 2000 normally?
