2 Blackberrys, am I mad?
Please Login to Remove!
Hi Guys
I am seriously thinking of investing in the new BB pearl 8120 when it arrives here in Ireland. I have a Curve but its work based and although I love it I am restricted in downloading anything (facebook, gtalk and the like) all the for fun stuff. I am not getting rid of my work BB I just want a walk-around BB to bring a bit of fun into my Crackberry world.
I have a few questions
• Am I mad (two BB’s??)
• Is the BIS service easy to set up/reliable?
• Are there any restrictions made my service providers as to what to can download to you personal BB?
Cheers

1. Yes, you are mad.
2. I have found BIS easy to set up and very reliable.
3. I use ATT (in the US) and I know of no restrictions to third party apps. Some carriers have restricted API's (like GPS access) for third party apps. I have facebook, gtalk and all the rest.

His BES admin through work most likely has an IT Policy preventing 3rd party downloads. This is the reason he is looking to get a personal device. More freedom to get the full BlackBerry experience.

I have two devices as well - an 8830 for work and an 8130 for personal. Partially due to restrictions, but also so I could get my personal email, text, and Blackberry messenger stuff off my work one (and I'm the BES Admin).
Setting up personal accounts on BIS is a snap. Just create an account on your carriers BIS site. If you want near instant email delivery (like you are used to with BES), then you will want to get a gmail or yahoo email account.

Ditto the above comments. BIS is truly very user friendly.
As far as the last questions, I hesitate to attempt even a short list, but the first thing that comes to mind is yahoo messenger on at&t and (forgive me) the internal gps matter with vzw. So, to the OP, the answer to your last question is maybe. My advice is search the forum and see what is being said about the carrier(s) you are considering and the applications you are interested. If you don't find an answer, as about the specific combo you have in mind.

Woo thanks for all the advice. Has there ever been a pole on here asking "how many Berrys do you carry" looks like I might not be the only one (when I make the purchase).
I will try to search the site to investigate possible restrictions downloads imposed by Irish carriers of which there are only 2 (vodafone and O2).......no competition means screwed consumer. I have a feeling that a colleague from work has restrictions i.e. cant attach a photo to an email and send because vodafone want them to use MMS (picture messaging)
Any more info is welcome

I bought an 8800 eight months ago for personal use.
My employer finally approved Blackberries for our team, and I have just received an 8830. Now I need to find an efficient way to carry both devices. Currently, I am carrying one in a factory holster and the second one in my pocket. Obviously, I can use a second holster, but I don't think I am confident enough in my own skin to pull that off in public. Not only that, I am in and out of the car often enough that a second holster would be more of a pain.
So, does anyone have any suggestions on how best to carry multiple Blackberries? Are there any manufacturers that make a piggyback holster?

OMG Mod Sith, how should we describe that? I don't think "addiction" is even appropriate!
