With APN disabled I have faster web browsing.
go to
Options > Device > Advanced System Settings > TCP IP >
uncheck all and try it yourself,
You can always reset your APN settings to the default from the menu under TCP IP.

i dont know, i dont use MMS.
are you using a 8310? this thread is for 9800 Torch which uses OS 6 that has some new features.

I loaded up a page that was loaded with pictures to test it, with APN disabled it was faster. Try some pages with it on and off to see the difference.

Before I try this - I did this once before on my 9000 (was necessary for a specific app to work) - but when I re-enabled APN later, the Username for APN and Password for APN did not come back.
I can write down the username before disabling, but the password of course only shows *******
Can anyone tell me what the username would be (i.e. is it my PIN, or an IP address, or ? ? ? ) - or if not, is this something AT&T can tell me?
Thanks - then I will try disabling APN and respond to the poll.

I think I got BBMaps to stick around too.

Could be if the settings are there it takes a bit for the browser to detect whats faster.
I need to find some time to test the push option now.

What mrc said -- I'd like to know what the effects could be by disabling APN in order to make browsing faster?
I moved from a 9000 and therefore am currently not pulling any hair out, as the browser is generally 3x faster on my torch than on my bold...but more faster can be better! |

Ok, so I disabled APN a week ago, and I do think browsing is slightly faster.
Now, since I climbed on-board, can someone please tell me what I am or could be missing by disabling APN? Not finding much clarity by googling, and would sure like to know if something could happen -- like next time I go travelling?

I disable APN for a while, but apps like Twitter was not loading twitpics etc...

I just found that several but not all youtube videos were playing. In Web Videos Search app I kept getting "player error: apn not set," which renminded me of disabling the apn settings. So when I reenabled and reset to default, I can now watch videos -- though browsing is a little bit slower. Anyone have this same issue with apn settings being disabled?

Many operators also charge differently for services on different APNs as the "charging meters" spot/measure the different APNs in use. The rate per KB is typically different for BB vs. general GPRS.
