Default OS 4.6 for other than 8350i?

Please Login to Remove!

Based on the BlackBerryNews feed post that states that the 8350i will be running OS 4.6, does that raise the possibility that the older 8300 devices will also be able to get an upgrade to 4.6?

I don't know what 4.6 offers above what 4.5 does, I just thought I'd ask.

Unlikely. The other 83xx BlackBerrys are running OS 4.5 (not all carriers have released it) and the next version should be a new 5.0.

Not really. Quite often a newer device has a slightly newer OS to support that device's features specifically. I don't understand why people would clamor for 4.6 without knowing what improvements (if any) it offers...

if anything, the newer OS's would lag older devices.

Wirelessly posted (T-Mobile BB 8320 OS 4.5.0.81)

The 8350i has 4.6 to counter the 8900, 9000, 9530 and 8200. Sort of like "fair play" for Sprint because they are the only ones left with devices that don't have 4.6

A co worker just go his this past Tuesday!
It is very nice to work with, though slightly thicker than my Sprint 8330.
But overall very nice, and it supports MMS...

Hopefully there will be something on the works to update current 8330 devices to 4.6.

I certainly hope so...

I was looking forward to buying a new MicroSD card for my 8300 and found that Kingston says the 8300 BB supports 32Gb MSDHC cards as long as it's running OS v4.6.

Unfortunately, as this is my first post on this forum, "Mr. System" won't let me post Kingston's URL where it says that. Simply go to Kingston's webpage, select BlackBerry on the pulldown menu and follow the steps.

All this made me think that it's probable that Kingston has already tested and certified 8300 BB's with OS v4.6. Let's hope for that to be true.

Welcome to the forums.

This should help you: What type and size Media Card can I use in my device? - BlackBerryFAQ

As NJBB stated above, the next OS for the 83xx series will be 5.0. You will not see 4.6

Kingston has not tested 8300's with 4.6. They must have tested 8900's or 9000's which are running 4.6. Or the Storm which is running 4.7.
