I've had my bold for several months now (purchased in April) and it worked fine out in Indiana while I was in school, granted I could only run on Edge over there. Now that I'm in Chicago, I sometimes don't even get Edge signal. My apartment is only on the 2nd floor, yet I get about 1 bar of Edge, sometimes. I walk outside and, while you would think 3g should be great in a large city, I get spotty 3g that cuts in and out between 3g and Edge. I recently had my Sim card replaced thinking that might fix it, but still no luck.
Could this be a problem with my bold? There are times where I will be sitting right next to someone with AT&T service (iphone) and they will have perfect 3g reception and I will be in SOS mode where even a battery pull won't get me anywhere. Anybody else in Chicago experiencing this with their bold, or any BB?
Sorry for the long post...just been so frustrated with this, since I am having to press my face up to the window to get 1 bar of reception.
I also live in Chicago. I am in highrise in the Loop for work and the 3G goes in and out (mostly on 3G and not EDGE, however.) Talk to an AT&T rep and see if they know of any issues in the city. Mine has been acting up more the last couple of days.
Welcome to AT&T in Chicago... although mine seems to have gotten better in the last few months, it's in and out of 3G constantly both in the loop and Lincoln Park.
Well, I went and got a replacement bold and am now getting better reception for the most part (might be still too early to really tell). In my apartment, 3G is getting about 4 bars when it used to get 1 bar of both 3G and EDGE or no signal. Not sure if its the new bold itself, or the fact that this one is on the original OS that the bold comes with (was running .282 before warrantying).
On another note, there was a pretty cool AT&T store that just had a stockpile of replacement phones and did warranties real quick. Was in and out in probably like 15-20 min with a new phone.
