Default BES 5.0 Upgrade to SP1: Trade-Up key requested

Please Login to Remove!

On our Test Environment we have a BES for Exchange with 5 user licenses. It was upgraded from 4.1.6 to BES 5.0 without problem. Also MR3 installed without problem.

Now that I wanted to upgrade to SP1, the setup comes up with a message saying that I need to enter a Trade-Up key. Does anyone know what's going on here?

Just to make it clear, we don't have BPS or Express or whatever. We have BES and we used the BES source to install BES 5.0.

When I look in the 5.0 Web Admin under BB Admin Service, it says:

License type: Small/Medium
Total number BES licenses: 5
Used: 1
Available: 4

I just don't understand why I can upgrade to 5.0 but after that not to SP1.

Thanks

We are having the same exact problem and our License type looks the same as yours.

We have a ticket open with RIM but no resolution yet.

Why would I be able to install 5.0 but not 5.0 SP1? Service packs have always been a free update.

If they are requiring people to upgrade to get SP1 that really sucks. We are already paying for support which is supposed to include updates. So to get my 5 user BES install to 5.0.1 they want me to pay nearly $3,000. That's insane.

(Still no word back from RIM on our open support ticket)

Upgrading SBE or BPS to BES 4.1 was always about 2800.00

Maybe they are catching up on a mistake and forgot to have BES 5.0 look at the version.

Hi

I also have that issue, also had a BES 4.1 and upgraded (and Paid) for the BES 5.0 upgrade. Upgrading to BES 5.0.1 is not possible, the setup asks for the trade up key.

For some time ago in BES 4.0 times, the SBE version of BES had a own Upgrade version, but after version 4 i haven´t seen that.

Have you got some info from the T-Support?

Kind regards,
David

Unfortunately not. It has been 3 days and we have gotten one reply and it wasn't even close to related to our problem. We are asking to have our ticket escalated because the person we are working with clearly doesn't understand the problem.

It might be helpful if the other people having this issue also create support tickets so that RIM knows this isn't an isolated issue.

I did some tests. I installed BES 5.0.1 from scratch and when I was asked for the CAL key, I entered our 5-user SBE key. The setup program immediately complained that I needed an Enterprise key. I then entered our 20-user Enterprise key and - it worked.

Strange thing is on a 5.0.0 installation of BES, the 5-user SBE CAL is working, only SP1 has problems.

So for the moment we are using our 20-user CAL on both our Prod system and on our Test system (with different SRPs), although we just have one user activated on the test system.

Maybe SP1 does not like the free CALs.

Wirelessly posted

They were not free. We paid for two 5-user CALs.

SBE CALs were not supposed to work on BES 5.

You were to upgrade SBE or BPS to BES Enterprise 4.1 then to BES 5.0.
Maybe the setup package did not detect that before.

Knotty - not quite....

I am on SBE - and when I upgraded, I actually downgraded from BPS to BES SBE. I then upgraded to BES 4.1.6.

At this point, I purchased T-Support and clarified that I get free upgrade to BES 5.0. This was confirmed to me - and was told that all updates will be free (as part of the T-Support contract).

I have not upgraded to 5.0.1 due to the issue with the address book disappearing. Maybe I shall try it some point next week when I get some free time....

Exactly. We pay for T Support which includes upgrades. And even without T Support RIM has always said that service packs are free upgrades.

I think the address book issue is fixed in the recently posted bundle 70.

At this point RIM is telling us that SBE stops at 4.1.6. We are still talking to them but it doesn't look good.

worked for me. The License says: "Enterprise", and, my 3 old SBS BES Cals are still ok.

Does that mean that if you purchase one Enterprise CAL and the rest are SBEs that will work?

I don't know, if a Bes-express/BES-SBE Cal works on a Enterprise Server, but, it seems the case, the Upgrade Key I bought, which converted the BES express to the Enterprise version converts these licenses to Enterprise CAL licenses.
Until now, I thought, BES express/SBE cals/Enterprise CALs are the same (exeption: BES professional CALs), but a previous poster in this thread wrote, his SBE Cals do not work anymore woth BES 5.0.1.

This is a confusing topic, and, it seems, besides of trial and error there is no docmumentation by RIM, which you can lookup.

SBE CALs are different from teh rest.
You have to order special SBE CALs for SBE.

BPS cals work with BES 4.1.
