So I may be exchanging my BB for another identical one because of issues with this one I have. Anyhow, in the month I have had it, I have installed quite a few ringtones, games, applications, etc... and don't want to loose them. Are these all stored on the SIM? I also have a 2gig media card installed, but not sure if anything is installed on there. Is there anyway i can save any of my info and.or transfer it over? Maybe backup to my computer and then restore to the new BB? Also, before handing it back over ot the store, is there anyway to wipe the data I have on mine so others cannot gain access to it? I currently do not have the keyboard locks on it or anything like that? Any other info you can provide in exchange this as it relates to the integrity of my info, the installed aps. etc..? Thanks much.

Do a backup, from Desktop Manager, and sync it with Outlook or to an ASCII file.
Do this as well, for Third party apps

The use the options > security > general settings > Menu > wipe procedure.

The backup using Desktop Manager is the best way. Do the 3rd party app backup too and that will make things quick. Syncing to Outlook is an additional way (and a good idea) but not required.

But then how do I wipe the info once I have backed it up so that once I turn the device in for exchange, no one can access my info? Thanks much.

Under options, I only have connect and data folder settings using the desktop 4.2 software. Looked under the location under phone and do not see that either. What am I missing here?

So the third party app thing seemed to work fine, but I do not see where it backed up my themes and rngintones. Is there another procedure for this?

We are still talking security wipe here, right? Maybe things are a little different with your model and OS, but if (on the handheld) you go options > security options > general settings and bring up the menu, do you not see a 'wipe handheld' command?

The first paragraph, yes, in regards to wiping it. I have a curve 8310 and on the phone when I go to options, security, general settings, all I see is password settings, lock handheld when holstering, etc...

In the second paragraph, I am talking backing those items up as I cannot see where they were done. WHen I went the route of backing up the applications, I can actually see the files that were backed up per that info I read. But I see no references to the themes and ringtones as I do for the games and such. Also, following the link above for third party apps., it also gives you the options to backup other things like messages and such. Should I go through the same route and uncheck third-party appls. and just do the other or is that stuff taken care of with the other backup procedure?

When you get to the general settings page you describe, cadmanmeg, you will find the wipe handheld command if you bring up the menu.

On the backup of OTA apps, etc I'll defer to others. All I can advise is to follow the directions in to faq exactly.

All the apps etc. Ringtones are stored in the backup, not individual folders.

Write down any registration codes or license keys.
