I don't have my 8100 in front of me but I think it's

Go into a message and Hit Menu>Enable Tap?

Why do you want to disable? If it is choosing tons of wrong words go clear your Custom Dictionary and it should be as good as new!

Your last post is what I found to be annoying. Now for suretype...

I loved it! I was so fast with it! If you just type looking at the keyboard and NOT at the screen until you are done it does an amazing job. It's up to you but I would clear custom dictionary and give it another chance but type without looking at the screen.

If you REALLY want to turn it off, go to Options-> Language -> Input Options and uncheck Predictive Input.
