Default Strange Keyboard issue - Tour 9630

Please Login to Remove!

Hi,

Having a strange issue with the keyboard now. Running OS v5.0 (419). The keyboard will not respond unless I hit the shift button first. Then the trackball and keyboard will work fine for a few keystrokes, then it will stop responding and come back once I hit the shift button again. I also notice that it seems like the letter 'j' is sticking as it will randomly throw j's onto the screen when I am typing a message.

I have wiped and reloaded my OS several times to no avail. The only thing I can think of is to take it all apart and clean under the keyboard/trackball.

Any thoughts?

Seems like it could be a moisture issue. Did you ever get the device wet?

No, the device has never been wet.

I pulled the device apart and cleaned everything out, also put a new trackball in. Was working perfectly until I tried to install the facebook app. I have since removed that app, and left the battery out for 5 minutes or so. Seems to be good now. Time will tell. Is it really possible an app could cause this?

Thanks! I will try that

Issue is still not solved. I have eliminated everything I can think of. Wiped and reinstalled OS many times now. It works great for about 30 minutes, then it starts acting up again. I can make it work by doing a battery pull and leaving it for 15 min. Then the cycle repeats.

This usually a symptom of constanting rebooting but since its so non intrusive and you removed all the apps, trying pulling the media card.

That seems to have worked. Thank you.

I am going to reformat the card and see what happens.

OKay, so it was working this morning for a few hours just fine after formatting the card. Now it is doing it again. If I am on the home screen and press the END button, it jumps to the phone dialer and inputs a 'J'. Wtf?

I am going to leave the media card out indefinitely until I can be sure that it is the root of the problem. Will let you know. Thanks

Media card was not the issue. Any other suggestions?

When you wiped the phone did you use the JL?

Also when you reinstalled did you restore your backup that you made with DM or did you leave it fresh. Might be pulling something from your backup onto your fresh install.

The only things that I restored were my Addressbook, and BBM stuff. I will try using the JL and keep it fresh, worth a shot I suppose.

Yeah I would say anything at this point. If that does not work on a completely fresh install, might be time to throw the towel in and get new one.

Its definitely hardware related. It seems like the J key is the culprit as it adds J's whenever it locks up. The only way to get it to respond is using the caps key or pressing J. I'm going to take it apart again and see if I can see anything on the board, etc... but it looks like I'm gonna be looking for a new one. Possibly try and find one with a broken screen as the keyboard is part of the mainboard. :(
