Just had a nice little conversation with Vodafone. After the threat of taking away my £4,000 p.a. account to Orange they finally admitted that they had some Bolds in stock but only ENTERPRISE versions, not consumer.

Only that I've been telling them every other week that I need an ENTERPRISE version since June.

They are shipping mine tomorrow to be delivered on Saturday.

I've had about 6 BBs over the last 6 years and kept up with all the latest glitz. My current phone is the 8800 and the 9000 just seemed like the dog's bo**ocks. HOWEVER.....

Because of a work assignment I am temporarily using an 8700 - back to the traditional wheel and a decent screen.

In terms of usability it blows the socks off the 8800 (and also I'm guessing the 9000).

Is BB planning a device with the old fashioned (but brilliant) ergonomics of the 8700 AND the smarts of the 9000 (like 3G and wifi)?

Ian, I have an 8310, my helper has an 8300 (handmedown), my children have an N95 and Samsung F700, wife has a Sony Ericsson C902. Believe me, Vodafone does not want to lose me as a customer (and in fairness, I don't want to go to Orange. Just that I've had 5 or 6 people on the Vodafone help desk promising me that they would call the moment that it was out.

I wish I had kept their names to check them out now.

Ordered a Bold by phone from Carphone Warehouse last Tuesday (SIM free not listed online) at £349 for same day despatch. Not arrived by Thursday, called CS, was told there was a "technical problem", please call back Monday.

Suggested they cancel the order, CS said it might take a month to process a refund cheque (I'd paid by CC). When they listed several local branches with stock, I asked that they credit my account for in-store pickup which they promptly did.

Went into local branch, was shown stock at £399 (was this the "technical problem"?). Swallowed hard, paid the extra £50, noticed that box seal was broken. Apparently all units the same. Hardware looked OK so completed purchase.

Returned to work, discovered that leaflet had been inserted in box promoting CPW Navigator, their subscription based GPS service. Fired up Bold, discovered that this software had been pre-installed.

Checked OS (v4.6.0.92), upgraded to v4.6.0.126, rejected option to re-install Navigator module, so device now clean.

Morals of story? (1) Prices may vary, (2) SIM free does not necessarily mean bloat free, and (3), as always, but particularly in my past experience with CPW, caveat emptor.

Cheers for the heads up David. I'm thinking of getting one SIM free today as I'm fed up of waiting for vodafone.

I just need to find out if I can have BIS on those SIM only deals (the one with 30 days rolling contract).

O2 have really wound me up over their release (or non-release) of this phone. Frankly the comment is any say to November and even as ridiculous as Jan 2009. Is there no one who can give us the scoop?

The reason I want to stay with O2 is 3000 mins, 3000 sms, BB unlimited, Unlimited 02-02 all for £45 per month. Annoyingly CPW went from £349 - £399 and Phones4U are trying to tell me an Orange branded handset is unlocked and simfree!!!

Vodafone retails shop in London have 5-10 coming in every 1-3 days. Normally sold out by afternoon. Bought mine on Friday (12th). Great deal, only £50 on a data/email only tariff for 12 months.
