Apparently no rogers users have data. DO we know if bell is down?

Not true. I'm in Chicago and having no issue what so ever. Seems more like a carrier issue and only resident to Canada

It's at least everybody gong through the Waterloo NOC. I had 2 canadian users roaming in Chicago and they were down. And on New York users, on T-mo US that was down.

Received this update from Rogers:

**Update** As of 7/12/2006 2:00 PM (EST) The root cause has been identified as a fiber cut on the Allstream network. Rogers and Allstream technicians have re-routed traffic and subscribers are progressively re-connecting to the network. Blackberry customers will experience delays in receiving messages until the back log is cleared

**Next update to be sent at 3:00 PM**

It lags on my blackberry.net address..... it seems to be doing well this afternoon, but some still lag.

I've been having anywhere from no latency to 20-40 minutes all week on BIS 2.0.

Both for 'yahoo' and 'rogers' addresses and my carrier.blackberry.net address.

Very frustrating.

^^ It was definitely a national issue. An Alstream fibre was cut. One would think that with such a critical fibre, a rudundant connection would be established.

Rogers data and/or Blackberry outages appear to occur all to frequently, IMO.

From Toronto Star 13/07/06:
Yesterday morning, a construction crew working on a site near Seneca College, in the Finch and Don Mills area, accidentally took down a hydro pole, which cut three MTS Allstream fibre cables, said Allstream spokeswoman May Chong.

The cables carry traffic from Rogers Communications' data network to Research In Motion, which runs the BlackBerry service, Rogers spokeswoman Taanta Gupta said.

Other MTS Allstream customers were also affected, but Chong would not disclose who they are.

Allstream began rerouting the traffic, and BlackBerrys began sputtering back to life within a couple of hours. By 5:30, about 90 per cent of Rogers's BlackBerry customers had service again, Chong said. Emails had been in a holding pattern, and it took most of the afternoon to clear the backlog. Voice, or phone, services were not interrupted and degrees of impact on data services varied.

Yep, it was due to the fibre cut. I was dispatched to one of our offices in North York to patch one of the DWDM systems over to alternate fibres at around 5:30 yesterday afternoon.

As soon as the node came up I started receiving emails on my BB. ones from the morning.

If it's not someone digging up fibres with a backhoe it's someone pulling down an aerial fibre. Some days you just can't win.
