Default Recording longer voice memos AND phone calls?

Please Login to Remove!

I work as a reporter and am considering the 8220. I sometimes have to record phone callsfor interviews and was wondering if anyone knows if there’s software that enablesone to record phone calls and save them as a file in the phone? Also, does anyone know if there’s software that can enable one to use the voice memo to record much longer – say,for 40 minutes or so. It wouldmake an ideal back up recorder, if possible. Thanks!

Just discovered that QmobilSoft makes the exact product, known as CallRec, but for the Palm! If only they (or someone else) made it for Blackberry...

There may be 3rd party software that would do this, but it seerms like saving a 40 minute recorded message would eat a lot of memory. Not sure if such a recording could be saved to a Media Card or not.

Apparently it has worked flawlessly w/ Palms, so...I don't see any reason why it couldn't work in the same way w/ Blackberries. It's just a matter of finding software that will enable such recordings.

The QmodilSoft support folks said, "We will expand our work to other devices but I can't tell you when we will have software for Blackberry...It is because Blackberry OS has some limitations regarding call recording."

What a damn pain... And why can't Blackberry get it together!? Man, I was so looking forward to getting an 8220, but... I don't know now.

Anyone else have any other ideas? Thanks!

Totally maddening. Am now seriously considering ditching the Blackberry 8220 and getting the new Palm Pre. Such a shame...but I really do need this feature. A bit it has proved so difficult for RIM to make it accessible. Thanks for all of your help!

Default This just in!

From the good folks at MotionApps...

Thank you for your e-mail.

We are aware of this demand in the market and we are working on a solution for a BlackBerry that will enable phone calls recording.

The reason our mVoice does not do this are hardware limitations and the fact that we are not able to influence and otherwise use BlackBerry device resources in order to make this possible.

Due to this, there is no other software that records phone calls on BlackBerry devices.

Then again, being aware of this request and because we receive this question very often, we have found a solution and it should be available soon.

Best Regards,

Kinda makes me laugh, I could record a good length of a phone call on my old nextel i85s phone with the built in software. It was a pain to get off the device, but still a pretty simple function. I'm surprised that no one has made an application for this yet.

Latest salvo from MotionApps...

We are not able to give any estimates ? we are working hard on this, but we still did not determine a release date nor we can predict how the process will go (or should I say how smooth the process will go ? will this feature give fully functional results at testing or will it demand some further development; will those potential interventions take a day or a week etc.). This is why we would rather not give dates (because we would like to stick to what we say, and at this point, we are not able to guarantee for our estimates).

However, it is good to know that there is such interest among you guys ? let me know if you would like me to let you know when it?s released, or which forum to post news to.

Best Regards,
Danijela

VR+: Voice Recorder :: BlackBerry :: Products

I think this is only for memos, however, not recording callls.

You could be right. In any case, it seems too far away to wait for such a product.

I'm eager to trade in my outdated Treo700p for something more modern, feature rich, with a better keypad. Digging the blackberry bold... On the Treo700p, I use mVoice from Motionapps--works like a charm to record calls, which I NEED to capture details from calls with clients when I'm not able to take notes (i.e., while driving) Am I stuck? Forever bound to a slowly dying treo? Sounds like developers aren't able to crack the OS restriction. Won't Bberry listen? Who's lobbying them? It's a dealbreaker for me... and it sounds like for many, many others as well.

Yup. That's why I won't get a Blackberry. It's a shame...

I too am disappointed when I realised I could not record voice calls. But there are two workarounds:

1. Put the BB on speakerphone and use another device to record the call.
2. If you have a second phone with that capability, call it as a third party then record the call on that phone. Of course this one will cost you.
