Default Rogers UMA no longer?

Please Login to Remove!

Hi All,

I noticed that on one of the more recent 9700 OS releases (cant remember version, the one that enabled UMA) UMA was working very well.

I had it going for a couple of weeks, I could turn off my radio and keep wi-fi on for making phone calls.

Then all of a sudden UMA stopped. My phone stopped showing UMA and I've since upgraded OS versions.

Is it safe to say that Rogers has disabled UMA access? or am I just a 'lucky' person who for some reason had it stop working.

Cheers!

Same thing happened to me. If you check the Wi-Fi Diagnostics section you should see under UMA: Status: Phone not allowed on wireless. Could be because we don't have UMA (what ever they're calling it today) enabled on our account, or they don't support the 9700, or both.

Rogers can be pretty stupid sometimes.

Bah I figure they might be launching some stupid thing the like HotSpot@Home stuff like in the states. You buy a wirelss AP that allows you use of UMA... at home.....

5.0.0.862 was the OS that enabled UMA for Rogers 9700's.

At the end of August, Rogers locked out all phones that were not on one of their TalkSpot Plans.

I lost UMA access. I called Rogers up and got onto a $5 TalkSpot Access plan (not the $10 local unlimited nor the $15 Canada long distance). The $5 plan is not an option in MyRogers, so you have to phone and ask. The $5 plan does take minutes out of your bucket but basement coverage is my issue, not talk time, so I'm fine with that. T-Mo has it available for free (but of course uses minutes) just like Rogers users did before the end of August.

Is Rogers not the biggest rip off ever? I hope these new providers stick it to them and force them to offer reasonable rates and something resembling decent customer service. Sorry if I'm venting.
