Default Useful, affordable GPS navigation on the 8100

Please Login to Remove!

Hi everyone,

I would like to use my Pearl for GPS navigation. I understand this topic has been discussed before, but I couldn't find the answers I'm looking for using the search function... Since I don't need GPS navigation very often, I thought instead of buying a full navigation system, a bluetooth capable GPS receiver together with my would be sufficient.

Is there some useful software for GPS navigation available for the 8100? As I understand it, Garmin offers some. Any opinions about that software? Is it useful and reliable? My carrier offers software, but internet connection is required, which would be 5€/month for Germany or 10€/month for Europe... Maybe there is something cheaper available?

I do have BB maps installed on my device, but I cannot choose any service in the map options...

Any help greatly appreciated...

Thanks a lot, but that's also a rather costly option. I'm beginning to see that a regular satellite nav device is probably cheaper... But thanks still!

You could try Nav4all,it's pretty basic but it's voice guided and free so you won't find anything much cheaper.

I can only comment on the UK and Nav4all works well here and has served me pretty well on a couple of journeys accross Europe too.

To get it just point your BB browser to nav4all.com and follow the instructions to download and install the app.

Nav4All works great in germany, too. It's not only voice-, but also arrow-guided, and if you press the "2"-key, a map with your route is shown.
Another java-app is from Kostenlose Handy-Navigation Ö-NAVI von DasÖrtliche, a phone-book making publishing house. Works not bad, you may search for several points of interest als destination, but there will always be advertising on the screen, so you will have more bytes to download. So keep in mind your data-plan.
Regards, Frank

Moved to GPS & Mapping Section.

Please check the yellow sticky at the top of the GPS & Mapping section. there are reviews of most of the map apps for the BB.

Not really. Just add/remove it as needed.

You really need to just check out the All Known GPS Apps thread and try some out. There's quite a bit of personal preference involved as well as some considerations that you haven't bothered to post (budget, etc).
