I have been using T-Mobile BIS email without problems on BB Curve 8320. Changed jobs and need to get work email to my Blackberry. I called T-Mobile and had them switch me from BIS to BES. As expected, personal email stopped working. It has been more than 2 days, so T-Mobile provisioning should be complete. I have not had a chance to get my work BES email activated yet, but wanted to go ahead and get personal email set up again. Did the set-up but no personal email gets pushed to my Blackberry. I resent service books, did not help. I did notice however that I did not get the usual confirmation message after resending service books.

Does the BES email have to be set up completely before I can set personal email, or could this be some other issue?

yes including with the BES plan is BIS access. make sure that Tmobile has you on the correct plan. you should be able to set up BIS before you activate BES.

make sure the IT policy for the BES allows you to get BIS in the first place too..

^^^ true, but once he does activate the BES, if the IT policy has something against BIS, then bis/bes won't work at the same time .. maybe i read the OP wrong? I thought he wanted both on his device?

You are correct, I wanted BIS before BES.

But I did check already to make sure that I can keep BIS

After T-Mobile Blackberry service couldn't get this fixed, I got bumped to RIM tech support. They worked their magic and got things working again...

lol are you serious? think about what you posting. you NEED BIS to get BES. the BES data plan is exactly that, BES is a server, not an internet provider. so and IT policy restricting BIS use would be the most REDICULOUS thing ever

well the BES Admin can restrict all BIS access, so that the ONLY email you send would be through the BES email. The IT admin can remotely disable other messaging services.

you can also control the firewall remotely to Block BIS email altogether from coming to the device. BES 4.1 and OS 4.2 required.

Do you have any clue what you are talking about? You absolutely do not need BIS to get BES; you're comparing apples and oranges here ... perhaps you might look to use different terminology to refute what was previously posted. BES IT Policy can restrict / modify how BIS services operate.

you just answered my question. an IT policy CAN restrict/modify BIS services because you have to access to the BIS data service in order to get email, etc. do me a favor call up your carrier and cancel your data plan (BIS service) and go and try to connect to a BES.

if you just have a BIS plan you cant connect to a BES anyway, you need a BES plan.

maybe there is some confusion here. there are 2 types of data plans. BIS data plan and BIS+BES data plan. BES is a server, its not an internet provider at all. How do you think when you are connected to a BES that you get all your emails? How do you think the BES even sends out information? The BES will send the info out through the internet and the internet will then push it to your device

In fact, both BES and BIS are Internet Services. Neither is an Internet provider. AT&T Wireless is not an Internet provider; they are a carrier ... a moble operator if you prefer. Same goes for TMo, VZW, etc ...

BES = BlackBerry Enterprise Server; yes I know this.

I get all my mail through my carrier branded BlackBerry Internet Service that RIM provides and the BES my company manages ... well actually I get data in 2KB chunks from RIMs NOC that gets routed through my carrier (or ISP if I'm using WiFi) to my device.

Try removing the BIS service books from your HH and you'll see that your device will still function perfectly fine on your BES.

There are really 3 classes of Service Books:

1) Provisioning
2) BIS
3) BES

You've mashed 1 & 2 together incorrectly. Take a step back, take a deep breath, realizing that you probably know a lot about how BBs work (and probably more than a lot of people here) ... but look at how you're phrasing everything and review the tone you're taking. Be helpful, and provide advice ... don't make people feel like they have to be on the defensive; treat them as you want to be treated.

BIS and BES are entirely separate services. The fact that carrier's don't offer BES-only data plans has nothing to do with the faulty assumption that BES relies on BIS for message delivery (it does not).

I don't even see where anyone said that BIS was an internet provider -- where was this first stated in this thread?

I want to get some personal e-mail accounts on my device but it's on a BES right now and I can't find anywhere in the IT policy that restricts the use of personal e-mail accounts.
