Default Finally got rid of PTT.

Please Login to Remove!

I finally got rid of the PTT app that was on my 8300, after som many said it cant be done, this is what I did:

On your pc, go to program files, common files, research in motion, shared, loader files, 8300v4, then java, then look for the file that has the words ptt in the file, delete it. Then on your desktop softeware use your app loader and go under advanced and choose erase installed applications, then click next, I choose do not back up and re-store the apps. then next and it should erase then install all the apps that were in the desktop folder with the exception of the ptt file. Then it will re-load and bang....no PTT, unit is now a bit faster.

Im no expert....but it worked for me.

The way I understand it, there are two files that need to be removed. One is the main PTT .cod and the other is KnJCDE.cod. I used javaloader to remove them on mine and my wifes Curves and it worked like a champ.

Would you mind posting the command prompts to put into javaloader? I don't know what I am doing wrong but I still have PTT on my device and have no use for it.

javaloader.exe -usb erase -f net_rim_bb_phone_ptt_app.cod
javaloader.exe -usb erase -f KnJCDE.cod

Input one command at a time as the device will reboot by itself after each input. This will work as long as you have the drivers for the device correctly installed.

Easier way is to change your platform.alx and then run DM which will delete. If you use a non-Cingular OS this is important otherwise it's always got PTT open in the task switcher.

You will find a line

<fileset pttApp="True" Java="1.0" _vendorID="102">

Change the vendor ID from 102 to some other number.

roughly a third of the way down on the Platform.alx file. I changed the vendor code to 220 then connected my BlackBerry to the desktop manager and ran the app loader.

There's a command to force deletion of "in use" modules. Add a "-f" between "erase" and the module name.
