Default bricked my 8100 through a software update. suggested standard solutions did not help

Please Login to Remove!

i updated my working desktop manager software by version 5.0 downloaded from blackberry website. when i connected my 8100 it suggested to also update my phonesoftware to a newer version. so i acepted and the update process started. desktop manager started to clear my device, load the new system software, rebooted (which worked) showing a no application installed icon, started to load the software modules, rebooted and never came up again. the phone just shows the red light flashing 4 times continously with the screen off.

i tried quite a long time now to get it running again using all the hints in the forums but always with the same result. the 4 red led flashing:

-> phone connection to computer works, it is possible to connect with the desktop manager or run the application updater directly
-> JL_Cmdr does not connect
-> loaded desktop manager 4.5 and phone software 4.5.0 rel 92 from the website of my mobile provider (T-Mobile Austria), reinstallation of the phone software ends up with the same 4 red leds flashing after the final reboot.

anyone further ideas, suggestions? i did not find any further hints in the forum :(

thanks a lot,
wolfgang

Welcome to the forums, Wolfgang.

If you have the 8100 and not the 8110 or 8120, follow these steps to the letter:
http://www.blackberryforums.com/gene...a-english.html

Don't use DM, but use Loader.exe.

Also, make sure you're connected directly to a USB port on the rear of the PC, not a USB hub.

If that doesn't work, then try following these steps:
What to do next if Jl Cmder will not connect and wipe - BlackBerryFAQ

thanks @jsconyers!

great hint!
it worked with the software version from your link!!

anyway i am interested in the cause for all the mess:
do you know what went wrong with the software versions from the T-Mobile Austria Download site and the software version automatically loaded by DM 5.0? seems both sources provided me with the wrong software?

I am not sure as to why it didn't work originally. I know others have reported issues when upgrading their OS throught DM. I haven't upgraded through DM in a long time. I always use Loader.exe when upgrading. It could have been an issue with DM.

i used both, loader and DM with the 2 other versions. same result. seems the cause was realy the version of the software installed to the phone.. hm, strange.
