Two BES's in one Blackberry Manager window
Please Login to Remove!
I searched all over the place on this one...so I find myself begging for advice from some super BES admins….
I have a few BES's in our enterprise. All under the same domain, but in different geographic locations. I just installed the Blackberry manager on my work laptop, on the domain. When I installed the software it asked me for my BES server. I entered one of them as I did not see a place to put more than one. I can manage everything fine, add users, remove users...etc. But...only on that one BES.
My question is this, How do I add my other BES's to my one instance of Blackberry Manager on my laptop?? I have a good feeling it can me done, as the app looks to be set to view several servers.
Prior to today, I was using remote desktop to manage them all. So I am super excited to add all of my BES;s to one app for management.

in order to do what you want all of your bes will have to share one db. once the are all in the same db (besmgmt) the you will be able to manage them all in one spot.
until then you should just be able to change the sql server for each of your bes within th bbmgr.

could you elaborate on what you mean by "until then you should just be able to change the sql server for each of your bes within the bbmgr."
I am pretty good with sql and such...I donxxx8217;t mind having to switch something quick. I dont have a need to see all simultaneously.

Meaning this...
BES01 goes into SQLServer01.BesMgmt
BES02 goes into SQLServer01.BESMgmt
... etc.
This makes a "BlackBerry Domain".
If your BES Servers already have their own BESMgmt, you will not be able to see them all within the SQLServer you have configured for it.

Ok, I think I see what youxxx8217;re saying. One SQL db instance, two BES's use it. Named something not similar.
Right now, they are separate physical boxes, separate SQL installs (on BES box). The only thing they have in common is the messaging and exchange settings.
One of the things I am working on is getting all of the BESxxx8217;s databases moved to our SQL enterprise. Once this is done I will be able to see the whole xxx8220;blackberry domainxxx8221; with all BES on it.
Meanwhile, I am trying to figure a way to switch SQL servers semi quickly on my laptops install of blackberry manager.

BB Manager should not ask you for your bes server but rather for SQL server name and database name. If you have two BES that backend to two different databases you specify for now either sql\database at the time.
My question is this, How do I add my other BES's to my one instance of Blackberry Manager on my laptop?? I have a good feeling it can me done, as the app looks to be set to view several servers.
From within BB Manager you can go to top file menu>Tools>Options> Database and type other sql server name and database name. OK and you'll see other one.
Prior to today, I was using remote desktop to manage them all. So I am super excited to add all of my BES;s to one app for management.
To view them both in the same SQL and database (so you don't have to switrch back and forth) they both need to connect to a same database during initial install.
Hope this helps

So after updating my BES to 4.1.6 one of my helpdesk users computer crashed (had nothing to do with the BES update), how do I re-deploy the blackberry (server) manger on their machine?

Ok, what if I don't have a copy of CD? Does it matter if the version is not up-to-date?

Contact T-Support and ask them for the full BES install of the version you're using. They'll send you an FTP link.

Per RIM T-Support, your BB Manager needs to be the same version as the BES

Are you installing this on your box? or the BES? I installed it on my laptop, not the server. That was the whole point of the thread....manage all your BES's in one app, on your local machine, no rdp'en into multipal servers.

I'm going to install the manager on my desktop and laptop, however the only full install I have of the BES is 4.1.2. I only have a service pack install of 4.1.6.
The manger will also be deployed/installed on helpdesk users computers as well for new user setups etc.

I am running a 4.1.4 manager and a 4.1.6. I am thinking that the service pack is not an issue as much as the 4.1 version.

You can feasibly download the latest BES version (or heck, sign up for an evaluation)...you'll get the latest download link. Download the tool and install, when prompted, just install the manager.
It's the bescals and SRP identifier keys that determine your licensing, not whether or not you are downloading a "trial".
That should do it for you, let us know how you fare.
