The only disadvantage would be if the seller has no idea what he is selling you and/or lies about it's condition.

Read this FAQ about buying used, and follow the suggestions therein, for a clean purchase.

Good luck, and welcome to the BB Forums.

Others report problems getting a used device "detached" from the previous user's service. Not to say it's a big deal...but it can be a pain in the neck if the previous user hasn't disconnected his/her service and/or plan.

Read the link I gave you and you will understand.

A BlackBerry is not (just) a phone. It also has a PIN/IMEI number which ties it to an account with the carrier for mail and internet, called the BIS account. If the PIN/IMEI is not released by a previous user, you will need to get the carrier or previous user to release it.

Secondly (all this IS in the link above) if the BB was used on a corporate BES account, there could security policies, etc., on the BB which will keep you from using some applications and/or loading software to the BB.

Read the link above for full details and help.

Wirelessly posted (BlackBerry8700/4.2.1 Profile/MIDP-2.0 Configuration/CLDC-1.1 VendorID/100)

I have purchased from the BBF buy sell trade several times and have been very happy each time

Buying here is a good place to start. I've bought from sellers on this forum and others, and have not had a bad experience yet. eBay on the other hand.....
