Default Cant upgrade OS from 4.6 to 5.0

Please Login to Remove!

Hi all,

I have done quite a number of upgrade from 8707v, curve, storm, and bold. but this is the first time i upgrade the bold. last 2 weeks i did upgrade my storm 2 without any problem.

but today, i cant do the upgrade on the bold 9000. the error is

"the blackberry desktop software does not have blackberry device software for the device you have connected to the computer. contact your wireless service provider or system administrator".

i found one article saying that the problem occur when we do the "check online update" for the Blackberry Desktop Manager. so i modify the installation and uncheck the online updates. after that ive searched for vendor.xml over the c drive, and found none of them. using the apploader.exe, just follow the instruction and its stop at the message above.

so guys, pls help me to rectify what more i need to do to make this upgrade successful. tq in advance

What version OS are you trying to upgrade to? Did you download that version and install it?

hi js,

ive tried everything that have been pointed out through the link but still, im not able to upgrade my os. the original os was 4.6.0.247. it was the default os vodafone shipped with. now ive downloaded the v5 os from kuwait telco. deleted the vendor.xml, try to search for the virtualstore, and even format the windows, still does not work for me. im in a middle of nowhere. i thought the fresh install could help me on this. unfortunately it didnt. im thinking of the windows 7 might be the culprit.. but previously it worked!! :( anymore suggestion? thanks in advance..

anyway this guys seems to have the same problem as mine..

Do you have a BlackBerry data plan? You cannot upgrade to 5.0 without the data plan.

For OS 5.0, yes. You need to have a SIM with a BB data plan inserted into the device.

That would explain my issues... no dataplan here. Such a shame, I'm never going to be able to update.

I just upgraded a 9000 that I bought from a coworker from a 4.6 version OS to 5.0.0.509. It did not have a SIM in the device at the time I did the upgrade. So, there was no way it could know I did or did not have a data plan at the time. However, I used BBSAK to wipe the device and then used it to load the new OS. The upgrade went smoothly. I later installed my SIM and used it for a weekend to test it. Everything worked. Evidently the results would have been different if I had tried to do the upgrade using Desktop Manager.

Same here. I had the same error message and even using loader.exe it would not allow me to upgrade. So I backed up the settings, wiped the device with JL_Cmder, upgraded and put the settings back. No hassles there.

Only problem: Opera does not seem to have a version for OS 5 yet.

Ok...I have the same problem: Bold with no data plan, and trying to instal last os5!

I used BBSAK to wipe and load os5, BUT I am not able to select ANY of the os5 modules EXCEPT for the main core modules (no languages, no games no nothing!)

Did anyone encountered this issue?!?

This is what I found out too, in short just turn off you BB (battery pull) start the loader to the point where it shows the USB connected device (none). Start your BB again, as soon as the loader shows the device click next or proceed. Then it will install always. Once 5 is on, no more problems.
