How did you arrange that with them? I ask because there's no option to ship to the US, unless I'm missing something...

I'm not sure I understand why you think that means that it would never happen. The US and Canada aren't the only countries with major GSM carriers.

Wasn't the 8700g released in Europe before the US? I know internally it's the same as any other 8700 but still...

Just call them 011 44 870 896 5538. I have no financial interest and am simply a facilitator in our mutual addiction.

If I bought the 8300 from O2 and get it unlocked and use it on T-Mobile, will the software be any different from the 8300 that would come with T-Mobile when they release their version?

Be sure to post pics once you get it. I think you are serving as a guinea pig for many here! Hopefully scancom is trustworthy!

Yes, it would not support the myfavs interface unless you installed the t-mobile 8300 software on it.

Scancom sells them on eBay.

eBay.co.uk: BlackBerry Curve O2 Handset Only (item 120120577405 end time 15-Jun-07 11:11:57 BST)

Including shipping to the states, and all that, it is about $522 US. I dont know how bad I want it now, especially considering the O2 software is all thats out there, and I am concerned about it being kind of funky.

Anyone willing to take the leap?

Sooo tempting. Does anyone know if we'll be able to unlock it for Cingular or T-Mo?

OS load is irrelevant on BB's. The service books configure your BB -- not the OS itself. Besides, archer6 already has on O2 8300 on a US GSM carrier. It's like any other GSM BB -- unlock it and it's good to go.

Yes you can. Though you don't unlock "for" a carrier. It's more like "from"... Once a GSM device is unlocked you can use any GSM carrier's SIM in the device.
