Default Blackberry 8700 Extended Battery wont fully charge with wall charger

Please Login to Remove!

Anyone having this problem...

My Blackberry 8700 Extended Battery wont fully charge with the wall charger. It gets to about 85% to 90% and stops. The only way to fully charge it is with the USB cable tethered to my laptop. What's also funny, is that last night it was 95% charged (via USB cable) and I unplugged it from my laptop and into my wall charger and this morning it's back to 85%.

I don't believe its the battery, and it might not be the wall charger. If the wall charger wasn't designed to charge this large of a battery, but that doesn't sound right, since it's just a function of time. My wall charger's output is 5vdc .75A (= 750mA).

Now I know the standard battery is 1000mAh and the extended battery is 1800mAh. But again, it's a function of time, not power to get it up to fully charge status.

Question 1: Does anyone have a wall charger that came with their 8700 that's different than mine, if so, what are the output specs? Maybe I have a very early phone charger since I picked up my BB 8700 once it was available.

Question 2: Any ideas??

Also, to answer some obvious questions:
- Already tried to fully charge it by leaving it alone for 24 hours.
- The laptop USB cable gets it to 100% without a problem, more than once now.
- My Blackberry 8700 is an 8700c from Cingular Wireless
- I am on AT&T Wireless will BB unlimited and it's also my voice phone.
- I love my Blackberry and since I'm a consultant, I've been pushing it to all my clients, who also love it! (Once I get them switched over.)

By the way, last night I loaded the 4.1.0.264 software on my 8700c and that didn't resolve the problem. (I've had the battery for a week now.)

Everyone is awesome on here! Keep up the great work. This is one forum where you can go to it and get an educated response.

I was researching the same 95% issue and noticed that when I plugged by 8700C with extended battery into the USB port the status almost immediately showed 100%. I'm guessing some type of software bug.

My 7290 began doing this. Stopped at 86%. i solved my issue. It's a disconnect between the battery and charging circuit. May have been caused due to not using it for months on end.

After sitting at 86% all night, I pulled the battery and left it out for a few minutes. I reseated the battery and when it booted, displayed battery strength at 95%. I plugged it back in and it charged to 100%. No problems since then.

Might try it and see if that helps.

There is a limiting circuit that keeps the BB from over charging. it should be built into the battery itself. Possibly the replacement batery does not limit ( it should or it's dangerous ) or it's limiter is not working correctly. Most of the charge limiters work on the tempreture of the battey. If you have it covered or protected over try removing the skin.

I was considering the extended battery also, what type and supplier did you buy? 1100, 1400, 1800 mhr?

thanks

I have this problem with an old 7100t. It has an OEM extended battery and no skin or case. It will sometimes charge to 95%. If I leave it and come back I notice it drops to 85% (while still plugged in.) If I unplug it for a while and come back later it will say 95% again. It seems to last the same amount of time...I just consider it a bug. The temperature thing makes sense though. The wall chargers may charge too fast and heat them a little more than a USB port. MHO

The usb port is limited but the problems seem like something the vendors should have a fix for . Possibly a different wall charger. If you can't get a full charge why bother with an extended battery. I have to do a little more digging into this.

My 8700 battery is garbage. I have to charge it EVERY night... somtimes during the day with my usb cable. I have the opposite problem thought. My wall charger is the fastest and most powerfull... my usb charger is crap.
