Default Releasing a BES user into the wild..?

Please Login to Remove!

We have BES Express v5.0.1.4 linked to our corporate exchange 2007 system. We allow users who have personal (not owned by the company) Blackberries to connect to our BES so that they can sync up their work contacts and calendars to their phone, as well as have the advantage of push email.

That's it. We don't push policies or security to the BBs, and we try to be as non-invasive as possible. Frankly we have a very small number of people using this - maybe 20 people out of our 6500 user-base.

Anyway, we have one of those 20 people leaving the company. I'm wondering what the impact to her phone will be when I disable her BES account. Is there anything I need to do to her handset (or on my BES server) to release her blackberry from enterprise control?

I just don't want the user to have hassles with their phone when they want to set it up with their own BIS email account down the road.

Thanks in advance,
Tom

This all depends on your personal device policy. If you remover her BES account, the only thing she will notice is that she is no longer getting email or PIM updates. The default IT policy will still be on the device.

However, all of your company's data will be on her device and out of your control. This is a concern for a lot of companies and that's why they have the user sign a waiver of sorts stating that if they leave the company, the company has the right to wipe their data off of their phone.

With 5.0.1 and Device OS of 5 or less, you really don't have many options.
You can rely on the user to remove the BES Service books from the device or you can wipe the device via the BES.

Even if you don't do anything with a policies, a Default policy will be applied to a user. That should not prevent user to setup BIS email but would be better off if device is wiped to factory default but that would remove all data along with it.

I would upgrade to SP3 for teh use of BlackBerry Balance, then you only wipe out the bussiness email and the user data will o be affected. This is only on newer devices with OS 6 and and certain min version needed.
